He Says: HFCS Awareness Month

by Mark Monday, September 1, 2008

Today is the first day of High Fructose Corn Syrup Awareness Month. This means Heather and I will attempt to avoid all consumption of products containing High Fructose Corn Syrup or HFCS. We are doing this because we speculate that High Fructose Corn Syrup is bad for your body. Like all other Hangry Pants experiments, we will chronicle our journey on HangryPants.com and reflect upon the effects it has on our bodies.

Great idea!! I need to make a more conscious effort to check for HFCS in my foods as well… I’m looking forward to see how the next month goes!!

I’m going to join you in this challenge! I’ve already been cutting out HFCS from most things, but I’m going to attempt to avoid it all the time, also!

  4. can i just take a second to comment on how freaking adorable you guys are that you do this together?

also, when i take my boy grocery shopping i have to watch and make sure no cookies or toys get slipped into the basket. or liquor.

Great idea! Its definitely a product I try to avoid! I love how you both are doing a 30 days type deal and documenting it!

  6. 6 Heather says:

    Nicole: Cool!

Kelly (Grounded Fitness): Thanks. I am sure some people think we’re cheesy or annoying, but it’s been fun! I assure Mark’s favorite aisle at any store is the toy aisle.

Aha! Another challenge. I’m definitely going to try to do my best to keep up (what’s hfcs in Spanish?) lol. Best of luck, this’ll be another wonderful month of conscious eating for your body! :)

Hi Yes I do live in Spring Lake all the time :-D I love it here, and have lived here my whole life except for the 4 years at Caldwell College.

That dude in the gray shirt with the mustache was NOT excited to hear about HFCSAM. But I am! Good luck! I’d have to clear out my entire condiment shelf to follow in suit. And I soooo ran past that Shop Rite today.

Haha this looks like an exciting challenge. Love the video intro. Can’t wait to hear more about it.

This looks like such a great challenge – I really am looking forward to it and hope to follow along with you two!

I’m joining your challenge…I’m also going to try to cut out white flour and sugar. When I first started looking out for HFCS I was amazed at how many products contained it.
Are you still no meat…you could have stopped by my house for some yummy grilled pork tenderloin and salad!

  13. 13 Heather says:

I am so excited that people are going to join in with us!

Stinky Cheese: Yes, I am still without meat. I would like to cut down on my white flour and sugar consumption, too. I can’t do it all at once, but maybe next challenge.

  14. [...] I really wanted to make ketchup. I love ketchup with sweet potato fries, but because of HFCS Awareness Month, I couldn’t have the Heinz in my fridge. I chose this Bobby Flay recipe for its simplicity [...]
