She Says: Less Than Fab

Until I got this news the highlight of my day was this sign for Trader Joe’s that I saw on my way to student teaching.  It’s coming soon! It really is. I hope it’s like the good one in Ardmore, Pa. That one is the best I’ve been to.

Yes, I turned around and took a picture of a sign. It’s behind the pole.

I won’t get into all the details of my crapper of a day because I will sound like a big winer considering the seriously horrible things that happen to people everyday. I will give you these tidbits. (1) I lost my car keys and had to have my mother bring my extra set to my school. I think I threw them away;  (2) I had this not great Couscous Veggie wrap thing for dinner.

The inside was ok, but it did not belong in a white wrap.

And finally, probably the root of my grumpiness: (3) I have these old clothes from my lawyer days that have not fit for me for over a year. I need to get rid of them. It’s so wack, but I am annoyed by this. I’ve heard that it is important for people who lost weight to get rid of the old, too big clothes, so they know the weight loss is permanent. Well, I think it might be equally important for those who gain some weight, too. It’s also permanent and, I know in my heart, is for the best. I think I’ve been brainwashed: thinner is better.

On a kind of related note, thanks for the Heart Rate Monitor tips. I think I would want to rent one or something just so I could see the difference in calories burned and heart rate when running on a treadmill v. outdoors.  I never figured out how to enter my own weight and age  into my parent’s treadmill, so when I run it says ridiculous things like 1,000 calories burned in 50 minutes.

Well, here’s to a better Tuesday. It’s already looking better thanks to Erin and Andrea. Thank you girls so much!

congrats on winning the blogger secret ingredient contest! i will definitely have to try that recipe!!!
i’m so sorry to hear your day has been less than fab. that’s the worst– one thing goes wrong and then it’s a snowball effect of other things. the couscous wrap looks good, even though you say it didn’t taste so great!
have a great night– i hope tomorrow is much better for you!

I’m sorry your day wasn’t da bomb but you more than deserved the winnings of the Blogger Secret Ingredient contest! Go you!! And hurray for taking pictures of new grocery stores :) Only food bloggers can truly appreciate.

I totally understand what you mean about the clothes. I have some jeans from high school that are totally laughable to keep around because as an “older woman” – Ha, sounds funny, but it’s technically true – there is no way I will ever get back to that size. 15-year-olds are built a lot differently than 21-year-olds…if that’s not stating the obvious, I don’t know what is! I’m probably just nostalgic, but it is hard to let them go. Do you want to have an across-the-blogosphere donation party? I really need to go through my closet and pick everything out – we could donate on the same day or something totally nerdy like that ;)

As for the HRM from your last post, I definitely think renting one would be cool. I know I bought one and really got into it at first, but once I realized I always burn roughly the same number of calories with each workout, the novelty wore off a bit.

“it’s also permanent and, I know in my heart is for the best.”– You got that right! I know how hard it was for me to get rid of my clothes from the past year, but finally one day my mom came with me to my closet, and we packed them all up and gave them to goodwill! To me, the clothes were a constant reminder that I might be there again one day. NOT good. Good luck ridding yourself of unhealthier times, and I hope you’ve had a better night! :)

I totally feel your Trader Joe’s joy. A new one is opening up near my house and it is going to be HUGE! The one I go to is very tiny. Plus, it won’t be in the area of town with lots of yuppie parents with kids they let run around the store and get in my way. I don’t like children so I admire the fact that you want to spend all day with them. :)
Kudos also on your light bulb moment :)

  7. Christie Says:

I agree i think it is importnt to let those old clothes go.. something that was very hard for me to do as well but signified that I am ok being who I am now and that was not who I wantto be…. your healthy and mentally better off now!

COngrats on TJ”s it is the best place!

Hooray for Trader Joe’s, and for being winner in the Secret Blogger Ingredient Challenge!! Focus on the positives; and here’s to a SUPER Tuesday for ya! :-)

  9. MizFit Says:

This almost40 year old has SO been there with the clothes.

Just tell yourself that even if you were to be able to wear them that they are sooo close to being out dated people would laugh.

Or does that only work for me? ;)

Sorry you had a crappy day.

    Here’s to a brighter tuesday.

horray for tj’s and congrats on winning blogger secret ingredient recipe contest!

sorry your day didn’t go well; i can totally relate…boo…

  11. Rose Says:

Regarding the clothes situation… I have been there myself. I actually threw away several pairs of jeans about a year ago because I thought I’d never fit into them again… well, I did lose some weight and I COULD have fit into them – but I’m still glad I threw them away. They weren’t part of me anymore. Do you know what I mean? They reminded me of my old life. That just wasn’t me anymore.

So I say the same about your lawyer clothes – you have a different life now, so I wouldn’t say you’re throwing them away because you got bigger (which you said was a good thing). Just say you’re throwing them away because that’s not you anymore?

I don’t know if I addressed your concern correctly… but that’s what I took from it.

  12. Meghann Says:

    Congrats on your win!

  13. rhodeygirl Says:

good for you for recognizing the positives heather! Get rid of those clothes- they are from a different, less happy chapter of your life. Is that thenew tj’s on route 2? That one is like 15 minutes away from me but I psyched for it to open!

Ps. How’s this for cheering you up… I am writing this from my iPhone! thanks for convincing me to give it another shot!!

  14. Mark Says:

Burn those clothes. I like current Heather best.

  15. HeatherBakes Says:

    Congrats on the win!

Was that a Cedar’s wrap? Yeah, not that great. You can’t even taste the couscous.

I’m the same way with clothes. I have a closetful of ugly too-small outfits from college that I would NEVER wear again but still can’t get rid of.

    Hope today is better!

  16. Christie I. Says:

Congrats on winning, I am sure you will enjoy that bread!

  17. Erica Says:

    Congrats! You so deserve it!

  18. runjess Says:

Sorry about your bad day. Mine has not gone well either. Let’s both hope tomorrow is better.

  19. arielle Says:

I am just going to comment on all your posts late because I’m slow like that. Anyway, I don’t use a heart rate monitor either, because I feel like I would get obsessed with the number and, in turn, probably eat more than I should because I burned such and such calories. Also because I haven’t really ever gained or lost any weight and I figure if I’m doing okay without it, why change things? That said, I would love to rent one because I’m secretly dying to know.

  20. Adrienne Says:

Where is that new Trader Joes located??

  21. Heather Says:

    Adrienne,

It’s on Route 2 in Warwick. If you’re driving north it’s on the right past Target. I read it should open this month!
