She Says: Dr. Weil Makes a Good Bar
This evening while running I watched Dr. Weil pimp some products on QVC. Yes, I said I was watching QVC. Don’t knock it, ’till you try it. QVC is how my mom learned about Bare Escentuals and Philosophy years before Rhode Island had a Sephora. Anyway, Dr. Weil was answering questions and selling things like waffle makers, hand blenders and this amazing looking duplex steamer. Anyway, watching it reminded me that I never discussed my experience with his bar that I ate the other day.
Review time with an apology for the v. poor picture quality.
Tuesday I tried the Weil By Nature’s Path Organic Banana Manna Pure Fruit And Nut Bar.
I cut it up into 8 little pieces and snacked on it throughout the day. Overall, I enjoyed my epxperience and would get this bar again. I’m interested in their other flavors like Goji-Moji and Pistachi-Oh!, too, but I’m not sure I’ve seen those in stores.
INGREDIENTS: Organic dates, organic dried bananas, organic almonds.

Texture: Larabar-esqe, pureed fruit genre. To me, Larabars are a bit dry, but this bar had a chew and stickiness that Larabars lack, and I liked that.
Taste: Very good! A little sweet at first, but I really liked it.
Bonus: Three simple ingredients! I got a little bit of banana in my bar and, as you can see in the picture, there were lots of little nuts.
Bummer: Kind of a lot of sugar at 22g (but it’s all from the fruit, no sweetener added) and not that much fiber at only 3 g.
Overall, as the new challenge begins, I’m trying to eat less and less processed foods, but sometimes I want or need a bar. This is a great bar for my new “whole foods” goal because it only has three ingredients and I thought it tasted great!

Yummy! I love bars, unfortunately they are SO expensive. I have a hard time justifying spending $1 + on a teeny bar. I really need to figure out a way to get them cheaper or for free. I’m excited for this new challenge of yours – I’m trying to eat more whole foods as well.

I need to try that bar! My mom loves the pistachio flavor!

hmm, never tried those bars b/c of the nutritionals, but i like your idea of cutting it up and spreading it out over the day… i’m just not that disciplined!

I’ve seen those bars but have haven’t tried them yet because they’re kind of expensive at Wegmans. I might try one now that I know they’re decent.
My mom watches a good bit of QVC also. You can get some good stuff on there! I have those spikes for my shoes and I can walk on a block of ice with them. Yes, it makes me a dork, but at least I’m not falling!

yeah I need to switch up my bars often or I get sick of them! Haven’t tried this one yet…so I’ll have to do that soon! Funny, my dad was all about Dr Weil like 10 years ago…way before he was well known…go dad haha.

I’m always glad to hear a good bar review…but I gotta say, Dr. Weil creeps me out a little.

I love anything with his face. I just want him to read my palm or something!

Did QVC make the running go by quicker? I’ve never tried that!

Lol. QVC. I shouldn’t judge, but the thought of you running while watching QVC is pretty funny.

Mm, I definitely am a fan of the Banana Manna bar!! I have yet to try their other flavors. But I agree that they sound appealing. The sugar content can be a turnoff sometimes but at least it’s all the good stuff.
Oh, and I love QVC – especially the website. That’s where I order my face wash…and I have Bare Escentuals, too! My aunt kind of has a QVC problem (aka the stereotypical QVC watcher who buys stuff that she doesn’t really need and never really uses), but the rest of our family can weed through the not-so-good deals and find the steals. It’s fun!

Any TV usually helps the run go by faster.
I kind of love Dr. Weil, too. He has a great website everyone!
