She Says: New Jersey Sunday
First, thanks for the kind comments. I know Mark appreciates people who are thoughtful and kind, and I do to. His grandma hadn’t been doing well for awhile, so while her passing wasn’t a complete shock, it is of course, still an emotional time. Thanks for your thoughts and well wishes.
Today Mark had some work things to do and I had some lesson plans to prepare, so we went to Hoboken and I walked to a Starbucks on Washington St. In case you’ve never been to Hoboken I want to tell you that there are more organic specialty markets than you could imagine. I will share two of them with you.
First, I share because there were so many bars I’ve read about but never seen. Here is a snapshot of the Cliff Bars for all you fans.
I found the elusive Spooky S’mores Z-Bar.
My official review? Do not feel sad if you can’t find this. It’s not bad or anything, but it tastes almost exactly like the Chocolate Chip. Z-Bar: Next year make a “Petriying Pumpkin” flavor for a Halloween Special.
Then I went into the most beautiful food store I’ve ever seen in my life. If you’re ever in Hoboken please go to Garden of Eden. I knew I needed to share my find with people who could appreciate such beauty. Everything in the store was gorgeous: wooden accents and floors, baskets holding fresh foods and hanging from the ceilings, Halloween and fall decorations, unique displays, vibrant colors. Everything was excellent! It was a good thing I only had $2 in quarters and a Starbucks gift card with me or I would have bought everything in sight!
To top it off they had samples and several salad and preapred food bars!
I don’t like salami, but feel like anything heart-shaped is automatically photo worthy.
I promise I made it to Starbucks and did my work. I enjoyed an Iced Green Tea and an apple while working.

Ugh, how can you drink that tea?! My boss at work has one every single day, so I finally stole a sip from her… Yuck! I can’t stand spearmint in my tea. Grossss.
The black tea & herbal tea on the other hand, yumyum. =] Each to her own, I suppose =P

I’m just catching up now and want to wish both Mark and his family well.
I’m glad you had such an enjoyable Sunday. And that your thoughts were the same as mine on that spooky s’mores bar. I definitely think petrifying pumpkin would be a much better option – good call.
Your description of the stores is so enjoyable to read. You definitely know your in good company by sharing your foodie experiences with us
I hope to come across a Garden of Eden in my lifetime. And eat a sunflower cake!

Sorry about Mark’s grandma!
OMG, that store is amazing! I only have a Whole Foods by me, but its on the small side and 1/2 trip one way. I just can’t justify the trip with gas prices what they are!
But I can drool over your pics!
October 13th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Hope you guys are doing okay!
What is special about Z-bars? I keep hearing about them…
October 13th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
i’m so sorry about your and mark’s loss. from my experience this past weekend, it seems like sometimes even knowing it is coming doesn’t make it much easier.
October 13th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
wow! I want to go to that store! I have been to Hoboken many times, but never checked out those cool places and now my friend that lived there has moved. Next time I come up to NYC, I may have to make a stop in hoboken! still need to try the ZBars!
October 13th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
ahh, that’s such unfair temptation! i have two papers to write, and my schedule doesn’t allow me to hop on Rt.3 and book it to hoboken! perhaps this weekend, it’s supposed to be pretty!
by the way, i’m very sorry to hear about mark’s grandmother – that’s never easy, even when it’s not a surprise.

I feel extreme and mayjuh jealously.
I used v. when taking notes today. I thought about scanning the page and sending it to you.
Love to you, Mark, and the fam again.
October 13th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Those are beautiful pics of the store! I am jealous of all the variety.
October 13th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Yikes – look at all of those bars – I’d be in total heaven but then again I dont do well with choices so it might work against me
October 13th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Beautiful stores! I love the pastries! I need to explore some of the tiny stores near us! Good luck with the lesson plans!
October 13th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
Wow, that market looks beautiful… and I don’t know that I would have been able to resist pumpkin tortellini! You have more willpower than I!
October 14th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
BeeElle: I love Z-Bars because I think they make an excellent snack. They’re small, but satisfying and have the perfect chewy texture. They only have 120 calories I think and for me that’s good in a pinch.
October 14th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Is it the same as the ones that are in the city? I love walking through those. I can’t afford to buy anything, so I just creep.
October 15th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Too fun! It looks like you got to see/try some awesome stuff! I just started to get hooked on z-bars but i haven’t had the spooky smores yet. I love your suggestion for next year though – I think you should let luna know!
