She Says: Thoughts
I had a great evening with some friends, including the Bestie visiting from Arizona. I had some grilled chicken (yes, chicken. It was great), asparagus, homemade cranberry sauce and butternut squash. This is not about that. This is about some things that have been in the air and, coincidentally, came up during the evening.
Happiness. No one and no thing or place is perfect, yet, we expect happiness to begin around the corner. When we get around the corner we are disappointed that “happiness” is not there. Happiness, I think, is within you. You can’t go get it and you can’t think “I’ll be happy when.” Life, I think, is about finding a way to be content with myself and the people and situations around me.

Well said about Happiness.
And sometimes, the simple things in life can surprise you by bringing you happiness…
absolutely.
AMEN SISTER
and good G-d it took me a lot longer to learn that…
before reading miz’s comment, i was about to right amen sister! you’re right on the money, but it’s so easy to forget… thanks for the reminder
And that can translate into anything, can’t it? People, work, the weather… I just find that time passes so fast, but I try to remind myself daily to just enjoy that exact moment, for whatever the good side is.
Enjoy your Saturday!
Amazingly true, Heather – I too believe that happiness comes from within, and that life is what we make of it.
I so agree with that idea. There have been some really great books on happiness recently–one, especially, called Stumbling on Happiness. The author (a psychologist) argues that humans really don’t know what makes us happy. It’s really interesting! I recommend it
i TOTALLY agree! thanks for posting this!
That sounds so RIGHT, but I never remember that. Thanks for the reminder.
absolutely and completely. i needed that reminder.
tottaly true! It is from within and we can’t just WAIT for it to come, we have to be it now!
I needed that reminder. Thank you.
Awesome post. I totally agree. I’ve spent a lot of time looking for happiness in different places, situations, and friends. And guess what? It’s never there. It definitely starts with being content in yourself. Have a great Saturday
very, very true.
it feels like whenever i want something to make me “happy” as soon as i get it, i’m lusting after something else.
it’s so important to be happy right now, than waiting to get somewhere that doesn’t exist.
i think happiness is a fleeting emotion. happiness is something that occurs in a spark at a wonderful moment – with close friends, during a make out session, during a long run…. i strive to be content with life, to be satisfied with my place, and continually reach for something better…. realizing that i dont have be uber happy all the time has actually made me more content.
love it. completely right on.
Great post.
Every time I read the word “Bestie”, I see it as “Beatle”. LOL Glad you had a good evening!
Thanks Heath.
Very well said, Heather.
