She Says: Wowsa!
Tuesday was a total blur of a day! It was fun though, so I’m not complaining. First, I got an email from the organizer of the 5k I ran in Sunday telling me (1) I won a raffle; and (2) won $25 for my age category.I left right after the race to get back home for the party, so I didn’t know there was a raffle or prizes. I had no idea there was money involved in running 5ks! More than $1/minute. Not bad.
Then, I had school, which is always exciting. I am going to miss all the kids so much in December! After school, I drove home, ran and then went to Whole Foods with my mom and brother who was visiting from Mass. He works at Whole Foods there, so it was a new experience to visit the store with an employee.
We spent 2 hours there and finally got home at 8:00. Is that excessive? I don’t think so. I learned a lot and got lots of new stuff! I contained my excitement and limited myself to trying only two of the new products.
I chose some Food Should Taste Good Multigrain chips.
They are the best chips I’ve ever put in my mouth. You can, and should, get a $1 off coupon here.
Then, I had a couple of these guys.
This was my first time with this flavor. They are good, but they taste almost exactly like the Brownie flavor. I think I was hoping for something more cashew buttery and I couldn’t taste any of that. I’ll concentrate harder the next time I eat them. I was looking at the website and would really like to try Anna-Banana and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip. I’ll look for those on my next WF visit.
I also ate dinner. I got it from the salad bar, but ate it ate home and put it on a plate so I could see how much food really fits in one of those little boxes. The highlight here was the cranberry pecan roll (only a bit left in the front), the sesame tofu and the cauliflower I love from the salad bar.
What Else?
I feel like I’ve been missing from the blog for days and it’s been less than 24 hours. I guess that shows I really enjoy it! How is everyone?
Anyway, I scanned the lasagna recipe I’ve been promising, but it’s way too big to post. I’ve asked Mark to work some computer magic on that.
Finally, I just wanted to share this article I read about the importance of relaxing while running. When I read it, I thought about how sometimes when I first start running, or do anything for that matter, I am so tight and stiff, then after a few seconds I remember to breathe and relax and immediately feel better. Like the article said, I can actually feel myself switch to relaxation mode, especially in the upper body, and this frees up my legs to go faster. Interesting.

2 hours is NEVER excessive a Whole Foods. Sounds like fun!
October 7th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
once i read you should hold your hands like you are carrying two ice cream cones. i always think about that when running.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
I think 2 hours at WF is entirely appropriate!

You’re the sweetest, Heather. I feel good today, thanks for asking! A little full, but not bad.
You know I’m obsessdified with Laura’s bites, right? Yum. Yum. Yumm
Have a happy day!

I love and miss those cranberry pecan rolls! I used to love working so close to WFs. Once you introduced me to those rolls I would go before/ during/ and/or after school to get one (or two).

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve spent 2 hours or more in Whole Foods. Honestly, I wish we could have a blogger slumber party there. Wouldn’t that be fun? Thanks for the product reviews!
I know what you mean about feeling absent from the blogging world when it’s only been a day – isn’t it weird how much it has become a part of us? I like it
Thanks for the article on relaxing while running – I know I can certainly benefit from doing more of that.

Congrats on your winnings. I need to step up my gain so I can make some money at running too!
And trust me I’v spent hours wandering around Whole foods as well.
I like the article. I feel myself start to relax while runnin gtoo. It’s when I stop that all the tension come into play, or even when I start to walk. I feel no pain when I run, but when I slow to a walk or stop somehow the pain and tiredness in my legs catches up to me.

I have to enjoy WF vicariously through wonderful bloggers such as yourself! I’ll just imagine what I would get from the salad bar…someday…
I can definitely notice a difference when I relax myself while running. I probably have to remind myself at least every 5 minutes to even out my breathing, roll my shoulders back, loosen my upper body, etc. It really does make a difference!
Have a great day

Congrats on the winnings from the race. Gotta love free money!
I love coming to your and Mark’s blog for the random links to articles and other little facts.

congrats on the goodies from the run! and i love wandering through grocery stores, so 2hrs is not excessive in my book
i’ve been wondering about those chips!!
October 8th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
I looove those chips. Mmm.

Sarah, my time was 24 mins. something seconds. I guess it wasn’t a super fast group. Or maybe they had me in the wrong age category. Anyway, my new running goals are to run more 5Ks, to practice outside more and to go faster on the treadmill.

While you guys were living it up at Whole foods daddy was frantic about how to heat up the lasagna. I was 1 of 3 calls he made to his offspring!! I do not exaggerate when I say FRANTIC!!!! Luckily, I led him in the right direction. However, one must keep in mind that I am far less experienced in the kitchen than the rest of the siblings. So, maybe I didn’t save the day afterall……..to be continued

Often after running up a big hill, I have to remind myself to relax. Just unclenching my fists works wonders.
October 8th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
i used to be all “tight” too – i’ve heard similar things to what other people commented – i pretend to be holding eggs in my hands (i have a tendency to clench/tighten) and this always helps!
October 8th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
Congratulations on your 5k!! That is awesome
. And those cupcakes looked so cute!
October 8th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
Two hours in WF is not excessive- sounds like a great night to me!
Congrats on the raffle and prize win
Off to read that article. I could definitely learn to relax more on runs.
October 8th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Oooh, I would love to spend 2 hours in WF! Next time I go it will be sans little one.
BTW – my favorite Hummus is Sabra brand, either Supremely Spicy or the Garlic variety. $3.99 for 10 oz at Shaws or $5.99 for 30 oz at BJs
