She Says: Bumbling Breakfast
Hi Everyone! I hope you are having a great Monday! I, of course, am done with student teaching and am pretty much in full holiday mode.
Oh yes, my mom wanted me to clarify that she made the date balls, butterballs, pignoli cookies and these peanut butter balls.

It is she, not me, who has the patience to roll millions of cookie balls. The cookies I am making are almost done!
This morning I woke up & watched the Today Show while enjoying some coffee. The weather is a very big deal on morning news shows. So is not getting fat over the holidays. I also spent some time trying to figure out how the heck you get to substitute teach in New Jersey. If anyone knows, please tell me!
Then I was notified that I received a package in the mail. Yippee! It was a box full of BumbleBars! Thanks, Bumble Bar. The excitement prompted me to get my booty in gear. So, I hit the treadmill. Today’s run was lovely. I am so glad Yoga Downloads helped me get my running mojo back.

Today I did 45:10, 5.5 miles and then walked for 15 minutes while watching this strange show. It was a talk show about doctors and all they talked about was losing weight and cellulite. Nice.
After running, I was too hungry for yoga, so I had breakfast.

1/2 Original BumbleBar, Greek Yogurt and a super juicy orange.
Original Flavor BumbleBar Review
This was a very interesting eating experience. This bar is comprised primarily of sesame seeds and peanuts, so if you don’t like those, these probably are not for you. It was really like unlike anything I’ve ever eating. Soft, but chewy and crunchy all at the same time. I really liked the flavor because it wasn’t too sweet, but had a nice nutty taste. They are really big and because of the consistency of the bar, I can’t imagine eating the whole thing at once. It’s kind of a lot of work to chew!

Here are the ingredients and nutrition info straight from the BumbleBars website.

Hangry Pants Food Drive
Today is the last day to leave a comment! Sabrina (Rhodey Girl) and I are going shopping for the food later tonight. I plane to get as much healthy cheap food as possible. The R.I. Community Food Bank has a list of items then need. One thing they are asking for is peanut butter. I think it will be pretty easy to find other cheap, healthy things (beans, canned veggies, cereal), but what should I do about the peanut butter? The cheapest peanut butter will surely be filled with salt and partially hydrogenated oils. Natural peanut butter is more expensive, but much better for people. What kind of peanut butter do you think I should get? I know people in need would appreciate any food they get, but does that mean they deserve unhealthy items?!?
I plan to do a Yoga Donwnload now then finish up some baking projects. Have a great day!

Josh LOVES sesame seeds! I need to find these bars. Have fun doing the shopping tonight- what a great cause!

Check out your package! What a nice surprise from Bumble Bar – sesame seeds and peanuts?! I’m all over it!
For the PB, if you have a TJs by you maybe use their brand? I don’t think they’re as bad as the regulars (I don’t remember the ingredients off the top of my head but knowing TJs I doubt they would be horrible).
December 22nd, 2008 at 1:03 pm
Oh wow, you make a valid point about the PB. I would go for the natural peanut butter too. But the question is, would people like it? I really hope they do. But my dad doesn’t like almond butter one bit, but I swear by it! <3
Anyhow, awesome on the package of BumbleBars, that is tooo cool!!
December 22nd, 2008 at 1:10 pm
I love those PB balls. Try buying a generic brand of natural PB or get TJ’s brand – super cheap and all natural as well.
December 22nd, 2008 at 1:20 pm
That’s quite the interesting-looking bar… I’m intrigued
.
As for the PB, I agree with Ashley. Generic natural PB gets my vote, I can hardly eat the fake stuff, there’s so many ingredients other than the peanuts!
December 22nd, 2008 at 1:29 pm
What a lovely assortment of Bumble Bars – I liked all the colors. I like those bars, although, they are like a workout for your mouth
I can’t wait to hear about everything you buy for the food drive. I know our local grocery store (Kroger) carries their own generic peanut butter that is simply peanuts and salt. I bet you find a cheap brand like Smuckers or something that doesn’t add a bunch of sugar or trans fats. Good luck!
PS – Your mom’s PB balls look very tempting!
December 22nd, 2008 at 1:30 pm
I think the best PB for the value…just to be practical. I don’t think you should get goobers or anything, but I don’t know. Do they have Adam’s up there?
December 22nd, 2008 at 1:43 pm
How about buying a store brand of natural PB? It isnt’ as cheap as the crappy kind but is cheaper than regular natural PB.
December 22nd, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Wow, that Bumble Bar sounds pretty cool. I think I would like the texture combination. I’ve seen them in stores – they will be next on my “to try” list after I clear out my house of all the other bars!
Have fun with RhodeyGirl! The cheapest, trans-fat-free peanut butter I know of is Skippy Natural. I love it – it’s the next best thing to Maranatha, and is what my family uses.
December 22nd, 2008 at 1:47 pm
The smucker’s natural PB I get only has peanuts and salt listed, but it only cost like 60 cents more at my grocery store than the cheap artificial store brand.
December 22nd, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Those peanut butter balls look mighty familiar
heaven, right?
Thanks for the bar review. I always look at those in Whole Foods. I may have to pick one up now.
I hope you find a subbing job soon. My friend just started subbing and loves it. I need to look into it I am thinking. And, congrats on finishing student teaching!!!
Have fun with yoga download…it’s my love, too. It has saved me, really.
Have a beautiful Monday!

Nice package! I’ve seen those bars but never tried them.
On the pb thing, I think that probably getting the cheapest is best for this situation. (1) because you can get more, which means feeding more people, and (2) because while partionally hydrogenated oils are bad, I think in this case, the pb is not going to leave a significant impact on these people’s diets. I mean, they probably won’t eat 3-4 tbsp a day…like me

Jenny has a good point about the PB- and some people wouldn’t appreciate natural PB because they’re not used to the taste/texture etc. But that’s a tough one! I’d also be reluctant to give people something that I know has trans fats. Maybe there’s a natural PB that tastes very similar to the usual stuff? I don’t know.
Have fun getting all that stuff together! Those cookie balls look delicious.
December 22nd, 2008 at 2:15 pm
The PB balls look delicious. No Bumble Bars for me. I’m allergic to sesame seeds.
December 22nd, 2008 at 2:28 pm
i say go with some smucker’s natural, or TJ’s store-brand. not super expensive, but healthy and super-good!
those bars look great. i could easily imagine eating the whole thing, though! otherwise that breakfast would not hold me over
December 22nd, 2008 at 2:33 pm
The news loves that stuff! What to store in your trunk in case you get trapped in your car in bad weather, and what not to eat at holiday get togethers. It’s their MO. Merry Christmas!
December 22nd, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Do you have Teddie brand in RI? We have it up here in Mass and its only about 50 cents more than the regular stuff and is just the basic peanuts and salt. Good luck and great job with the food drive!
December 22nd, 2008 at 2:42 pm
that is a sweeeeeeet stash!
I shop at henry’s farmers market and their store brand pb is pure peanuts and little salt…i love their stuff…and it’s only 1.99 a bottle.
December 22nd, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Yeah for bumble bar!! They have been so great for the HBBC. I was intrigued by the bars as well they are very different from what I normally eat.
Hey do you have any low-cal cookie recipes? I’m trying to get rid of the 4lbs I gained this weekend.
December 22nd, 2008 at 3:42 pm
PB BALLS!!!!!!!
I’m not too crazy about Bumble Bars… but you’re not crazy about Larabars, so we should do a bar trade, haha!!
December 22nd, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Those Bumble Bars look like they’d be right up my alley.
That’s a tough question about peanut butter. I think they’d appreciate more volume, even if there are additives involved.
I need to try yoga downloads. Seriously!
December 22nd, 2008 at 4:33 pm
I think TJs is definitely the best bang for your buck. It’s about $1.70 for a jar and all it has is dry roasted peanuts in it (and salt if you get salted).
December 22nd, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Get Trader Joes pb!
Those bumble bars look good.
December 22nd, 2008 at 7:04 pm
that bar looks yummy! I am loving those balls your mom made too, they look like buckeyes, kinda!
December 22nd, 2008 at 9:18 pm
In my experience, food banks really appreciate it when people donate healthy items. I would go with the natural peanut butter unless it’s a ton more expensive.
December 22nd, 2008 at 10:13 pm
those peanut butter balls look awesome. i think those bars look great – never heard of them before this!
December 22nd, 2008 at 10:19 pm
ahhh PB balls happen to be my favorite!! i wish my mom could bake, I’d be allll over those
December 22nd, 2008 at 10:29 pm
heather i am so insanely sorry i had to cancel on you!! can you email me the amount of hits you got on your post so i can match the donation?!?!?!?!!?
December 22nd, 2008 at 10:44 pm
My made PB balls yesterday, too- she has more patience and skill than I!
I agree with the others about a generic natural PB. Or maybe a little of each??
December 22nd, 2008 at 10:47 pm
5 cents!
I love those peanut butter balls — so tasty.
And, I recommend Trade Joes PB, too. You just can’t go wrong with it!
December 23rd, 2008 at 9:40 am
That’s a good point with the peanu butter. I say the read the labels and see which one is less potent
December 23rd, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Yum, any chance of a recipe for the date balls?

Heather – my mom used to sub in Bloomfield and Nutley. You have to get added to the sub “list” that the principals can call, plus go through a background check, fingerprinting, etc. Contact the local school board(s) at their main office to find out who to talk to.
If you have any questions, let me know and I’ll ask my mom for you.
December 29th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
mmmm…peanut butter balls.
And I think I’ve seen those Bumble Bars somewhere before. Nice to see what they look like inside, and hear what they taste like. If see them again, I might pick one up.
