She Says: The Most Special Cookie of All
Hi Everyone! I braved the malls today, but it actually wasn’t that bad. The urgency comes out more in people’s driving than anything else I think.
Before I went out, I did 5.3 miles on the treadmill and the Detox Yoga Download. I’m an addict. Oh and Lora asked, “How do you find the motivation to do the yoga downloads? i have 2 of them and i just can’t make it through 20 minutes, because I dont know my poses yet so it sucks having to look at the guide lol.”
Well, honestly, the 20 minute yoga has been motivating me to run lately. I just love it! I think it’s probably easier for someone who is familiar with all the poses to follow along with a class from Yoga Download. I’ve been practicing yoga for about five years so I know the names of most of the poses. If I didn’t I would probably get frustrated and stop too!
Anyway, after this I had my usual yogurt, wheat germ, banana, peanut butter breakfast and headed out. I stopped and dropped off all the food at the Food Bank. The woman I spoke to was very appreciative and said they’ve been busy, which is obviously great. I tried to explain the concept of the blog and the Food Drive, but I am not sure she quite got it. She said to thank my friends for their help, so THANKS.
Then I picked up friend and frequent commenter Heather’s Bestie and Cookie Recipient and we kicked it at the mall and Whole Foods for awhile. I love it when she visits from Arizona! Once home, I present wrapped and ate dinner.
Garden Burger on Ezekial Bun and lotsa greens.

Sometimes I take the worst pictures. Usually, it's when I am hungry and have no patience.
Then I enjoyed my new favorite tea with milk.

Now, I am blogging and shall return to present wrapping momentarily.
Cookie of the Day: My Mom’s Cut Cookies
Well, it’s time for the last cookie recipe. My favorite Christmas cookie of all time, the only one I ate for most of my life, is my mom’s cut cookies. The cookie recipe comes from Betty Crocker and the frosting is just confectioner’s sugar, vanilla, milk and food coloring. I’ve been making them with my mom since I was little.

Rolling the dough in 1987.
My mom wants me to tell you she didn’t have a mullet, but rather, her hair was in a ponytail.
Light, soft, buttery, almondy perfection. Always beautifully decorated! When I was a kid it seemed like there was an endless supply at Christmas.

The cut cookies always live in here. When I was little I would sneak unfrosted ones!

Here is one of my mom’s famous Santas.

I hope you like them!

haha, I am actually going to go to a yoga class, because I think that might help me! I am a runner too, so for me, it is just hard to relax, calm down and meditate…I love running outside and blasting some Rage Against the Machine to get me through rough ones but its so rewarding when I am done! I guess I need to learn balance, right?
Oh and my Panera addiction hit an all time high…dinner was panera tonight too…seriously? haha. What can a girl do when friends and fam love it too!

I keep reading about yoga downloads but haven’t tried them. Sounds like there is a large variety of programs to choose from. I should just go for it as my goal for 2009 is more yoga!
December 24th, 2008 at 1:39 am
I’ve been looking everywhere for the EggNogn tea!! I had to settle for sugar cookie tea (which I found at Whole Foods) Where did you find it?
December 24th, 2008 at 1:39 am
Love those yoga downloads
The detox one actually seems to go by really quickly for me; I’m not sure why. I did it tonight and didn’t feel like it was a workout so I followed it up with one of the vinyasa flows.
I love your mom’s cookies!

December 24th, 2008 at 2:42 am
I laughed out loud at the mullet comment
Those cookies are gorgeous! Your mom is very talented. I could never get Santa to look that professional!
And wow, 1987! You look absolutely adorable, whereas I was pretty much bald and the only sounds I made sounded more like grunts. Great year, though – my fave!
Merry Christmas, Heather!!!

Such a cute photo! The best cookies are the ones that have a tradition:)
I think that almond extract and vanilla extract make everything taste about 10 times better. Yummy.

December 24th, 2008 at 11:31 am
Merry Christmas Eve!!!!!!
Good call on already knowing the poses. i think it is def worth it to go to real yoga classes until you have a feel for the flow sequences and a good number of poses. i wish i had more money to spend on yoga!!!!! i was reading about some “pay what you can” classes … just $15 per class really adds up (what my classes cost).
December 24th, 2008 at 11:41 am
aww your cookies are adorable! And I love the blast from the past photo!
December 24th, 2008 at 1:47 pm

December 24th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Those santa cookies are adorable!! Almost too cute to eat. Almost.
LOVE the vintage Hangry photos. Nice overalls
December 24th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Hey! Thank you so much for your offer to send me a bag of the Eggnog tea.
As luck would have it (or maybe it was a Hannukah miracle since I’ve been looking *everywhere*), I actually found it at Safeway today when I wasn’t even looking (it was in a special section that I passed by on my way to buy some much needed Sudafed). I’m actually drinking a cup of it right now.
It is great!! Thanks again for being so kind and thoughtful. I hope you are having wonderful holidays!
December 25th, 2008 at 12:41 am
aw what a great tradition! that santa is so cute!!! how adorable were you in that photo!? and congrats on the food drive! You are a great role model Heather!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
December 25th, 2008 at 8:45 am
Where did you find the egg nog tea? I was so excited when I saw it in your post, but the Publix near me in Central Florida doesn’t carry it. I’m going to try Winn-Dixie next, and after that — I’ll ask my friends and family to search for it! Egg nog is what has been missing from the last few holidays … a zero-calorie way to work it back in must have come from Santa!
Thanks,
Katy
