She Says: I forget the yeast!

Is it just me or are oranges ridiculously good right now?

Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom

Well, I went to the supermarket last night and I got 4 different kinds of flour to take my bread making to a new level, but I forget yeast! Doh! So, instead of making bread, I drank a milk cup of Eggnogg’n Tea. The budget thing has really weened me off sugar and even my beloved Sun Crystals. Such luxuries are not necessary and therefore, I have taken to drink tea and (gasp) coffee on occasion w/ just Light Soymilk!

I also ate some made/ate Garbanzo Bean Dip and crackers.

Garbanzo Beans, Plain Yogurt, Roasted Garlic w/ Olive Oil and CUmin

The dip is pretty good. Perhaps a but too much cumin.  It’s really thick and kind of chunky, so I guess it’s more of a “spread.”  It was still warm when I first ate it because the garbanzo beans were still warm from being cooked from their dry state. So at this point they kind of tasted like mashed potatoes with cumin in them!  I wonder what it will taste like cold.

Alright everyone. It’s currently 6:56 A.M. and I need to be in R.I. in 4 hours for my niece’s gymnastics-themed birthday extravaganza.

Mark and I saw The Wrestler. We want to see all the Oscar related movies. Have you seen it? Mark thinks its happy and I think its sad. I don’t want to give the ending away, but if you saw it, what do you think? I watched it before bef and it disturbed my slumber. That always happens to me. If I see a sad or depressing movie I can’t get it out of my head. I worry about the characters and then I can’t sleep.

See you later and have a fabulous Sunday!

Yumm, hummus! Sounds yummy, I’ve never tried it with yogurt, great idea though!

Too funny about your movie anxiety, what a sweetheart ;)

  2. VeggieGirl Says:

Lovin’ the oranges aaaaand the dip!!

    Haven’t seen that film.

  3. River (Wing-It Vegan) Says:

We have the same food processor! Well, not the same ONE, but you know what I mean :)

Haven’t seen The Wrestler. I have a similar problem with movies. I never watch torture movies because it… well… they torture me all night!

  4. River (Wing-It Vegan) Says:

Oh, enjoy your niece’s birthday! :)

  5. Sarah Says:

i grab splenda packets from pretty much everywhere i go. i drink my coffee black but like a little sweetener in my tea and sometimes in my yogurt so whenever i get coffee (aka–many times a day) i just grab a few to take home with me. i should probably be ashamed about this but since it’s from my school that charges me oh, $45,000 a year, i feel like i should take what i can get!

  6. Nicole Says:

It is too bad you couldn’t bake the bread, but at least you had a nice night!

  7. Meg Says:

Oh man..I am craving oranges now.

  8. Beadie @ What I Ate Yesterday Says:

I love oranges when they are in season!!

    Have a great Sunday!

  9. Jasmine (Sweet and Fit) Says:

I have never seen The Wrestler, but I am going to look into it because I’m going to the movies next weekend. About your dip that you thought was too creamy and would be better as a spread, I think you could thin out the dip by mixing in a little bit of milk.

  10. elise Says:

oooo, i really wanna see the wrestler! i saw gran torino and slumdog millionaire, both were ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. i dont know how anything could top them, but i would recommend them both.

ps, thanks for the barneys review you sent me. you 2 are hilarious btw

  11. Jenny Says:

For some reason I always neglect citrus fruits, thanks for the reminder :)

Have a great Sunday and enjoy the gymnastics tournament!

  12. Erica Says:

oh no! I hate when I get home and realize I have forgetten an important ingredient. Your dip/spread sounds wonderful. Have a safe trip and have fun at the party.

  13. Erica Says:

P.S. do you plan to do some gymnastics at the party ;)

  14. Sarah (Tales of Expansion) Says:

YES, oranges are perfect right now!

I’ve always been a mess with sad movies, too! I saw The Land Before Time when I was 7 and spent the rest of the day in bed crying until my grandma brought me some mini-dinosaur toys and helped me make up a better ending, haha.

    safe trip home!

  15. K Says:

The dip sounds fabulous and hey mashed potatoes with cumin isn’t a bad thing ;)

I haven’t seen the movie but it sounds interesting!

  16. Heather McD (Heather Eats Almond Butter) Says:

Your dip sounds good…I like potatoes and cumin. Why not? :) I bet it will taste better after the flavors blend in the fridge for a while.

Ugh, I wish I could ween myself off sweeteners for my warm beverages. I’m working on it. You inspire me Heather.

I have not seen The Wrestler. I’m trying to catch up on my nominee movies as well. I’m way behinds as Chris doesn’t like to go to the movies. I made it to Slumdog Millionaire last week, and I’m hoping to catch Milk this week. We’ll see.

Have fun at your niece’s gymnastics extravaganza. Do a cartwheel for me.

  17. Victoria Says:

We really want to see the Wrestler, but, even though our town has 250K people, we don’t get a lot of new movies right away. No Milk or Frost/Nixon either. :(

  18. ashley (sweet & natural) Says:

I saw The Wrestler last weekend and I thought it was sad too. Such a good character study.

  19. Sarah (lovINmytummy) Says:

I saw Mickey Rourke on the Today show last week and was so intrigued. We haven’t seen the movie yet, though. We were thinking of going to one tonight, but I’m not sure if I want a sleepless night =)

  20. sarah (of ghost world) Says:

maybe someday you’ll be like me and only want your coffee black :)

i like the idea of seeing all the oscar movies! fun.

  21. ashley (sweet & natural) Says:

Saw your comment about Sucanat – Maybe I wasn’t totally clear in my post – I edited it so hopefully it makes more sense now! To answer your question, Sucanat and turbinado are both made from the sugar cane. But they are produced in different ways – like you said – so Sucanat actually retains ALL of the sugar cane’s molasses whereas turbinado retains SOME of it.

  22. Heather's Bestie and Cookie Recipient! Says:

Be like grandma Ida and take “a few extra” sugar packets from restaurants. I know I would be physically unable to drink coffee without a bit of sweetness.

Want to hear a RIDICULOUS TRAVESTY?! Ok, I make white bean spread and crostini all the time because I love it and it’s a great source of protein… Well, my super market stopped selling cannellini beans!!!!! I asked and basically they were just waiting for customers (me) to buy out all the cans so they could discontinue them! They only carried one brand and now they carry none!!! I had a (few) moments of panic but John eased my mind and said we can try the 1 other market in town, and if that doesn’t work, go all the way to Phoenix for them. Seriously, how ridiculous!!!

So thank you for posting your bean spread… I’ll have to try it out in replacement of mine. You must have been reading my mind!!!!

  23. Lacey Says:

hi heather! i didn’t get to comment yesterday, but those muffins look amazing! i saved the recipe to use. i DEF stand close to the front of the treadmill but i think that’s a safety thing :) AND i just found a GREAT tip for running outside in the winter if you tend to be cold at the beginning and then overheat!!!!!!! = put your clothes in a hot dryer just before going and then you’ll be warm in them and by the time you warm up you won’t be too hot!!! :) let me know if that works for you!!

  24. Sharon Says:

    Oh wow, super super tasty!
    And I love oranges too!

  25. Tyler (Raspberry Runner) Says:

I haven’t seen The Wrestler, but I did see The Reader the other night, which is also up for an Oscar, and it was really fascinating and intense!

  26. Kate Says:

I am the SAME way. I have not seen that one yet, but I saw “revolutionary road” with kate and leo, and it was SO SAD. I thought it was going to be a luvydubby love story! Warning! haha

  27. Maggie Says:

YES THEY ARE! I just bought a 10-pound bag of organic ones at the farmers’ market and I have no doubts that they’ll be gone in a few days :)

  28. eatingbender Says:

I love how alike we are in that we always seem to forget things when it comes to baking :)

I really want to like coffee and tea plain. I enjoy having hot drinks because I’m always cold, but since I always stick so much stuff in there I know there has to be a limit. Maybe I’ll start slowly working my way there…

That dip looks good. I haven’t seen The Wrestler, but I was just talking to a friend that saw it and she shared your perspective. I totally know what you mean about movies disturbing your sleep!

  29. bhealthier Says:

    Gymnastics Themed Birthday Extravaganza~~!@!#!@$ #@!@

Oh my goodness I freaked out when I read that , what a totally awesome partaaay it would be if I could wear my pink striped pants and you could wear the blue striped and we could color coordinate ourselves!!? yipppeee!! We should totally make our own workout gear video together!

okay back to reality- I hope you have a safe drive and fun time and hooray for family. I like that dip/spread you made and I had a question for ya: I was going to make my own pine nut hummus even though I just bought two tubs of it at the store because I am a freak and love to stock up on food. It makes me feel better. Tangent over- where do you buy tahini? Do you use tahini? how expensive is it ? do you think its absolutely necessary for the hummus-making?

    hmm that was 4 questions

happy road to rhode island time!

  30. Lindsey (Mrs. LC) Says:

I do the same thing, worrying about characters in a non-happily-ever-after movie that I see too close to bed. But then I’m like “duh Lindsey, it’s just a movie!!” haha I’m such a nerd.

I’m about to go bake the same vegan muffins you made yesterday, can’t wait til they’re out of the oven!! :)

  31. ttfn300 Says:

tis the season for oranges :) i hate forgetting one major ingredient!!

  32. Brittany Says:

I am loving oranges right now too. I just bought some blood oranges that are awesome.

I’m the same way with scary movies… I don’t watch them for that reason.

  33. Biz Says:

Bummer about the yeast – my bread turned out really good – I tried a new recipe and I think its a keeper.

    Have fun at the party!!

  34. Marianne Says:

It’s too bad you had to put your bread making on hold. I’ve rarely drink tea with any sweetener in it, or milk for that matter. And alas, I have not seen the movie. I pretty much don’t go to movies – it’s just too expensive when I could watch it at home…although, I don’t really rent movies either. HA!

  35. Erin Says:

Cumin can just sneak up on you right?! It’s so good but can be really intense!

  36. fitforfree Says:

all the Simpsons references make me happy . . .

  37. The Running Yogini Says:

I know I’ve been crazy about oranges and grapefruit lately!!! Something about this time of year maybe?? Oh! I answered your sprouting question and gave lots of good links :-)

  38. Katie Says:

I agree – oranges (and all citrus fruit for that matter) are definitely one of my favorite things right now.

That dip sounds really good, by the way.

  39. Heather Says:

bhealthier: I didn’t use tahini in this recipe. I’ve actually never used it. I guess I just assumed it was expensive. I will look around next time I am at the market.

  40. lauren Says:

yes – oranges are GREAT right now. Have had 2 today so far and may be going back for another after I type this.

  41. carolinebee Says:

O man i always forget imp stuff when i grocery shop…i swear i make a list in my head. My gramz just hooked me up with some oranges, yay!

  42. MizFit Says:

not just you as, for some reason, right now oranges are like TODDLER CRACK around here!

  43. caitlin Says:

by the way, this post inspired me to buy oranges at the grocery store last night!

and check out my post from this AM: http://www.healthytippingpoint.com/2009/01/what-makes-someone-runner.html

  44. Annette Says:

I haven’t seen it! This is the second good recipe I have seen today using chickpeas ;) I will have to try both. Lyn, at Escape from Obesity had a recipe for roasted chickpeas ;) Yummy!
