She Says: 450 Strokes/Stirs By Hand
I had much better luck with raw food fullness yesterday, which I attribute to more nuts and better planning.
After my breakfast cookie, I went to the gym. My ankle was feeling great, so I ran for 45 minutes (5 miles) and came home and did Level 1 of Jillian Michael’s Shred DVD. After this wonderful sweatiness I had the biggest salad ever. This is one of those giant bowls for mixing batter.
In the mix was
- Romaine Lettuce
- Spinach
- Raw Cashews (a lot)
- Carrots
- Tomatoes
- Peppers
- Cucumbers
- Sugar Snap
- Balsamic Vinegar
- Olive Oil
I also had a banana, which I’ve been eating non-stop these past few days, and went to work!
At work I found out that tomorrow we’re celebrating February birthdays for two of the kids. I was told this involves cake, which a staff member makes. I volunteered because I love an excuse to bake cakes. My dreams of creative cake making were shattered when I was instructed to get box mixes and frosting. Oh well, I still had fun with it. I got one vanilla and one chocolate mix. The instructions recommend 450 stirs by hand. Actually, it says “strokes,” but I am a lady. Anyway, I certainly did NOT stir or stroke 450 times.
I must show a picture to make my Dad jealous of the frosting.
For dinner I did half raw because I realllly wanted a baked sweet potato. I also had another salad. Nothing too exciting in there except some leftover Raw Sundried Tomato Pesto with Zucchini and the usual mix ins.
I like to bake potatoes in the oven because the outside gets crispy. I put ricotta cheese and broccoli in my potato. I love it so much that want it again for dinner tomorrow night, but I already have something raw planned.
Pre-Lost dessert was in order. I had a piggy bowl of plain yogurt and Zoe’s Granola Cereal. If I could enter the Zoe’s Giveaway Contest, I would definitely choose the Cinnamon Raisin for my free box. It has a subtle cinnamon flavor that tastes natural and not too sweet.
And here I am with red eye gently asking Mark to stop taking pictures of me and start taking pictures of his food and blog once and a while!
Today I am subbing and then have the after school program. I have a raw lunch and dinner planned, but am packing extra snacks to avoid the hanger I had Tuesday. Later gators.

Glad you got full with your raw foods : ) I think I might try to pay attention to how much protein I eat the next few days just out of curiousity because I really don’t even have a clue, and maybe that is the answer to the tight tummy problem. We shall see …
Your cakes look delicious and I like my sweet potatoes in crispy like that, too! Mmm!

Glad you’re figuring out how to stay full with some nut love.
Love the double frosting on each cake. I bet the kids will be soooo excited.
I always baked my sweet potatoes in the oven. So much better than in the microwave as they get all gooey and syrupy.

Your baked sweet potato is making me hungry!
Have you tried sprouting/germinating dried beans? That’s a great way to get in some raw protein and combat hanger. All you have to do is soak beans (I like lentils/garbanzos) in a pot of warm water overnight, rinse, and eat!

I miss Mark! Tell him to break out the keyboard and blog!
February 26th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
I LOVE giant mixing bowl salads!
450 strokes- really??? The brownie mix I just used (shhh, don’t tell…) said 50. I think 450 = time to haul out the mixer.
February 26th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
i love how the cakes look like black and white cookies- my favorite!
February 26th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
Awe those cakes look really fun!! How cool are you to split the icing half and half.
February 26th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
Nice big salad! If you slice very thin, kale and cabbage and things like that can be salad-friendly too
February 26th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
heather!! my love.
how come SP aren’t raw?
February 26th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
I love that you got to bake for the students. I didn’t even know that people could do that anymore. It seems like so many schools are strict about what can be brought in. I also love the preciseness of the 450 strokes.
February 26th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
What a cute picture of you.
What’s wrong with strokes?
February 26th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
love the baked potato!
And you’re so kind to bake cakes for your students! I want a teacher like u!
February 26th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Those cakes look delish!
And of course I gotta give it up for that Sweet P!
February 26th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
What brand/type of ricotta cheese do you buy?
February 26th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
ricotta in a sweet potato! i never would have thought of that!
February 26th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
What a great idea to put ricotta on your sweet potato I will definitely be giving that a try.
Can’t wait to see your raw eats for today!
February 26th, 2009 at 3:59 pm

I LOVE big salads! I really liked what you did with the sweet potato too!
February 26th, 2009 at 5:43 pm
hahahahahhahahaha, i’m sputtering tea all over the place because i’m laughing about the stirs vs. strokes comment.
sounds like you are fully back in the running game, yay!
p.s. there’s something unfairly delicious about boxed cakes and tubs of pre-made frosting …
February 26th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
Mmmm big salads are great. And your potato looks good too, mine have started to go soft so I need to get some more
Baking cakes is tons of fun. Think you could just about call that many strokes a workout hehe.

February 26th, 2009 at 10:06 pm

WHERE did you get that piggie bowl?!
Box cake has its time and place, and when it’s there it is faaaabulous.
February 27th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Katie: The piggy bowl is from a Le Gourmet Chef Outlet in Wrentham, Mass. It went with a rib making kit, but I just got the bowl.
February 27th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
