She Says: Oatmeal Cookies Two Ways
Hi Everyone!
I don’t have very many exciting pictures to share because one of the activites that Mark and I had to do Saturday was attend a funeral for a friend’s grandmother. It ended up taking up almost the entire day and I, of course, did not whip out the camera for food photos. I was with people who do not know me as a non-meat eater, so when I did not eat any of the chicken on my plate I had some ’splanin to do. It was cool though. There was lots of bread and macaroni and that’s enough to keep me pleased. Is there a “high carb” diet? If so, I am totally on it.
In the car Mark and I shared a Blueberry Vanilla Crackle Plank that Honest Foods sent over. All I have to show for it is this v. artistic iPhone photo.

I know when picking something to snack on I am looking more and more at the ingredients and less at the numbers on the package, although remember that one plank contains two servings. Here are the ingredients in the Blueberry Vanilla Crackle Plank.
Organic Whole Oats, Brown Rice Syrup, Nuts & Seed Mix (Almonds, Walnuts, Peanuts, Sunflower Seeds), Multi-grain Blend (Brown Rice Crisps, Puffed Whole Rice, Puffed Whole Wheat, Puffed Whole Corn), Natural Evaporated Cane Juice (Florida Crystals), Canola Oil, Organic Brown Sugar, Dried Cranberries, Dried Blueberries, Natural Vanilla Extract, Natural Flavors, Sea Salt.
You can actually see each nut, seed and fruit mentioned in the plank. This bar is also quite fragrant. It smells just like blueberry muffins. For me, it’s almost a bit too sweet to eat in this form like a granola bar. I think I prefer it in plain yogurt. I know some people have wondered when Honest Foods products will be back in stores. Well, I spoke with someone from Honest Foods who assured me that they should be back by the end of the February and can be purchased online at www.honest-foods.com or on amazon.
So, on our way home we stopped at Ikea for a new kitchen rug. Well, actually we stopped in for curtain rods, but you can’t just get one thing at Ikea.

Oatmeal Cookies
At home I made oatmeal cookies for two Superbowl parties on the horizon. I made two kinds: Granola Oatmeal Chocolate Chip (left) and Martha Stewart’s Classic Oatmeal Cookies (right). I based the Granola Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies off the Best Oatmeal Cookie recipe from Quaker Oats, but I added 1 C of Nature’s Path FlaxPlus Vanilla Almond Granola (aks Rice Krispies Treats Cereal) and 1 Cup of Semisweet Chocolate Chips.

These cookies represent two types of cookies: soft and high and thin and crispy, which do you prefer?

haha love the high-carb diet — it’s one of my favorites. i pretty much refused to eat anything except for pasta (white) and rice (white) until i came to ny for college when i was 18!
i love lumpy uniquely shaped cookies, but i like them best when they are crispy. so there’s no choosing. both of your cookies look amazing, and i would probably have at least 5 of each if they were sitting in front of me. for this reason, i am very glad there is a river between us right now
.
enjoy your parties (and great choice on the kitchen rug!)

The both look good to me, but I think I’d like to pop a few of the soft and highs in my mouth right now. You got me with the cereal and the chocolate chips!
Sorry about your friend’s grandmother.
Love the new rug! I so wish we had an Ikea. I’ve never even been in one. Someday I hope.
Happy Superbowl Sunday!

I just like cookies!
February 1st, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Sign me up for that high carb diet too.
I love the new rug! Ikea is so much fun.
As for cookies, I usually prefer them soft and chewy, but I don’t discriminate.

The arty photo is kinda fun!
And the one good thing about living on the island that I do, is that there is no Ikea here. At my parents’ house, I can drive to Ikea in 5 min. I would often do that just to browse…dangerous!

I like crispy cookies, but I’m usually not too picky when it comes to cookies. Enjoy your parties.

February 1st, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Sorry to hear about your friend’s grandmother…
I like my cookies in between – crispy edges but soft, chewy, gooey middles.
February 1st, 2009 at 2:10 pm
soft and high cookies for sure
i would actually prefer to just eat the dough usually, but… apparently that’s not safe!
i’ve never heard of these Honest Foods products, but they sound amazing. I’m definitely doing the same as you– less at the calories, more at the ingredients!
February 1st, 2009 at 2:15 pm
I love soooooooft cookies. The more cookie-dough-like, the better. Ooey and gooey is the name of my cookie game.
February 1st, 2009 at 2:18 pm
I’ll def join you on the high carb diet – sounds like the best one out there!
February 1st, 2009 at 2:45 pm
I just went to Ikea yesterday and it was a madhouse! In fact, it was so crazy, I was able to leave with only one thing. A miracle!
I looove the soft ang high cookies, they are by far my fave!
February 1st, 2009 at 2:59 pm
Soft and high! Takes longer to chew.
Even though the thin and crispy cookies have their merit, I feel like I did something wrong when my cookies come out that way, though that doesn’t mean they won’t taste good.
February 1st, 2009 at 3:37 pm
soft and high cookies for sure! i love the chewiness of a good cookie =)
February 1st, 2009 at 4:07 pm
Can you throw a little chocolate in the flat and crisp/chewy cookie? There, that’s the one I like. No really, haven’t met a cookie I didn’t like!
I’m on that high-carb diet, too! jk
February 1st, 2009 at 4:49 pm
most definitely soft and high!
February 1st, 2009 at 5:11 pm
I’ve been craving oatmeal cookies all day! I think it’s time to get my booty in the kitchen and make some.
I love the rug too. I wish we had Ikea here.
February 1st, 2009 at 5:13 pm
Soft and chewy all the way! But I wouldn’t complain about the other ones either
February 1st, 2009 at 5:23 pm
Soft and high cookies! Yum.
February 1st, 2009 at 5:35 pm
Soft and high all the way!!! I love IKEA! I could spend days in that store!
February 1st, 2009 at 6:58 pm
Soft cookies are the best!!! I don’t mind if they are high either.
I deliberately underbake mine so they are at that point where they just barely stay together when you pull them off the cookie sheet. Love it!
February 1st, 2009 at 7:37 pm
You are such a good baker! Did you send some to Meghann in Colorado?
February 1st, 2009 at 9:12 pm
haha i’m on a high carb diet right now too.
as far as the cookies go, i like them tall and soft. YUM
hope you’re having a great day!

Hey! I just wanted to let you know about a place in Nj I went to this weekend. It’s in East Rutherford (not sure if you are near there, it’s about 25 min from me). Anyway, it’s a vegan bakery. We got cupcakes for my birthday celebration. We also got a few cookies. The place got all these awards including best bakery in Bergen county. It’s called Sweet Avenue Bake Shop. You can google it for the website. The cupcakes were really good! I got the Boston Creme, YUM! Everyone was quite happy!
Let me know if you try it out!

February 2nd, 2009 at 10:32 pm
