She Says: I’ll Be Heather Hummus.
I was asked to think of something I like that starts with the first letter of my first name. “I like hummus,” I said, “So, I’ll be Heather Hummus.”
And that is how I came to be known as “Heather Hummus” at Girls on the Run training today! I think it was a good choice. Everyone remembered my name and some people offered me hummus at lunch. I declined because I packed the most delicious lunch: leftover lentils on spinach, Greek Yogurt, Banana, Orange and Pepperidge Farm Fruit & Grain Bread Cranberry Orange bread.
Pepperidge Farm sent us a bunch of bread to sample. Mark already discussed the new Vitality Multi Grain with Ancients Grains and I plan to do a complete review of each bread they sent us, but for now, let’s just establish that this Cranberry Orange bread is ridiculous! It reminds me a bit in taste and texture to panettone. It’s part of their “breakfast” line of breads, but it’s sweet enough to use as a dessert. But, I ate blindly, trusting that PF would not pull any funny business on me. Unfortunately, this bread contains High Fructose Syrup, and so, as good as it is, I would probably not buy it. I hate when that happens.
Anyway, I am in love with GOTR. The program encompasses everything that I think is important about girl-hood: being comfortable with being yourself, being healthy in a non-competitive or stressful situation and supporting other girls. The program encourages girls to have fun and be silly. Today many girls are in a rush to grow up to be more like Hannah Montana or a High School Musical character, but this program pulls girls out of that pop-culture pressure and puts them with other girls their age who want to have fun and just be kids.
Basil Lemon Chicken (or Tofu)
After GOTR, I went to the gym for some brief ellipticizing. Mark and I both wanted to hang out at home for the rest of the day, so I used up some ingredients I had in the house to make Basil Lemon Chicken for Mark and Tofu for me. It was a pretty simple marinade consisting of basil, lemon, extra virgin olive oil and Dijon Mustard. While I exercised my culinary muscles (nerd alert), Mark yelled at the Street Fighter IV game, which is apparently a cheater. Mark corrected me, it’s the Microsoft Controller that causes problems.
Close up shot of the chicken and whole wheat couscous, which is just so fun to eat!
After dinner, I convinced Mark to watch basketball with me. I think it was relatively painless for him, but he just doesn’t care about sports. He liked to play them, but has no interest in watching or following them. Eventually we decided to move our booties and went for a 2 hour walk while we chatted. Now Mark is eating 7 PistachiOats in a variety of flavors! He is a PistachiOats lover.

mmmmm I love pepperdidge farms bread(and the fact that they make goldfish easily moves them to the top of my favorites list)!! yumyumyum.
I think Heather Hummus is a fab name.. i LOVE hummus. and any name associated with the word is fabb!
I wanna be Munchin’ MizFit please.
Cookie Carla?
hello Heather Hummus~~~ such a cute name… so easy to remember!! hahah
I’ve heard great things about GOTR. Are u coaching them? what do you do with them?
Heather Hummus. I like it! I’m always Marvelous Molly! Heather, thank you so much for volunteering for our program. We are lucky to have amazing women like you involved! I never in my wildest dreams, thought GOTR would be the positive FORCE it has become in this world…but I am forever grateful for women like you…who have made it so!
Have fun!
It sounds like a very fun night in for the two of you. Your dinner looks very yummy. Mmmmm.
looks like a lovely night! I think seeing sprouts on a salad immediately makes it look amazing to me!
that’s so awesome about gotr!! i have been very interested in that, too. how do they recruit girls to join??? is it attached to the schools somehow?
Great night of fun and fabulous food!!
Lacey: I think most of their recruitment is word of mouth, but other than that it depends on the community. Some schools allow GOTR to send home information and some do not. They also put up fliers around towns if that option is available.
I’m glad you had such a good time at GOTR! I’ve heard a few people talk about that group and think its something I would def be interested in! Great dinner- love you you made the chicken for mark and tofu for you! Hope you guys have a good (basketball) filled Sunday! PS- Josh was super excited that your a nova fan!
Glad your GOTR training went well! Sounds like a really good program.
Very cool that you are getting involved with GOTR. You will be a wonderful role model for those girls!
Glad GOTR went well!! I kind of wish my name started with an H so I could be hummus – I adore it!
Thanks so much for telling us about GOTR!! I had never heard of it before yesterday. I looked them up and they have a chapter a few hours from me. Once my knees are better I am going to look into volunteering with them. My niece will be 8 in July and I would love to get her involved in GOTR. I wish they had something like this when we were young girls! Thanks Heather Hummus!
I’ve heard such great things about GOTR from so many people, may I’ll look into getting involved!
How cool that you’re doing GOTR! I think its a great program!
I’ve always been Mango Mara with that game…
How’s the HRM band situation??
Heather Hummus is awesome! That bread looks so delicious but it’s too bad about the HFCS. I used to love lemon chicken, I’ll have to try lemon tofu…sounds tasty.
Bethany Bread, Bethany Banana, Bethany Blueberry, Bethany Bacon… yup, that’s the one!
lol, hi, heather hummus! is that what really everyone there called you?
omg-I am such a sports freak and my bf really could care less to watch them! I have to kind of force him:P Isn’t it supposed to be a GUY thing! HAHANow that is what I call a lunch spread! kudos.
I always go with Happy Hallie…but I like the sound of Hummus Hallie as well! Or…Hamburger Hallie…nah I don’t like burgers that much. Oh I’ve got it…Hot Sauce Hallie
Oh wow, what an awesome time!!! Glad you had a blast!
You can be Heather Hummus if I can be Sabra Sarah. Deal?
I too am shocked that you had to convince Mark to watch basketball. What does he like to watch? Or is he the intellectual and prefers to read?
Dinner looks really good! I have all of that stuff on hand, so I think that will be put on the agenda! Thanks!
MMmm. I love that you made tofu for yourself and chicken for your bf. It looks delicious.
Sarah: Mark prefers to play video games and watch funny shows.
Sophia: Well, everyone had a funny name, so pretty much, yes.
Funny that he yells at the video games… my husband has said repeatedly that he wants his favorite thing to shout put on his tombstone… that would be: “THIS GAME CHEATS!!!!” It’s usually followed by several obscenities…
i like hummus too, but my name doesn’t start with h… oh well! GOTR sounds great
Hmmm…I am an “H”, too (thanks, Mr. Obvious). Holly….Ham? Ham Salad? Hot fudge sundae? That’s a really great way to remember names. I’m going to try that when I meet people.
You dinner looks totally yummy!
[...] It’s on the Pepperidge Farm Fruit & Grain Bread Cranberry Orange bread that I wrote about here. I know it had HFCS in it, but it was free. And it is tasty. It would be a perfect 10 without [...]
