Guest Post: Megan’s Bellybar Review

Hi Everyone! This is a post by my sister in law Megan. She has a blog called From a Sesame Seed, which is the perfect name for a blog about first time pregnancy and motherhood. She is a wonderful writer and I highly recommend checking out her blog!

She didn’t ask a question, but I will ask one for her. If you’ve ever been pregnant or just been crunched for time, what are some good pregnancy and post-pregnancy (baby is here & no time to eat) snacks?

Baby Needs Chocolate

Yesterday my husband wanted to “show me off” to his co-workers at Whole Foods.  I think it’s so cute that he loves my pregnant belly (for some history, Billy and I have always thought pregnant women were sexy.  Now?  I ain’t feeling so “sexy”).  Before we reached his department at the end of the store, we first perused every aisle very carefully and slowly. When I am not rushed in the least, I simply LOVE wandering around Whole Foods.  We reached the bar aisle and I went in for my usual Larabar purchases, with some fun additions like Cherry Pie and Key Lime.

Then something very relevant caught my eye.

Bellybar: Baby Needs Chocolate

Bellybar markets itself as “Before, During, and After Pregnancy Nutrition”.  The kind that I choose was Chocolate Toffee Crisp, and it was very, very yummy.  It was chocolatey but also nutty.  I had mine frozen, so it was very chewy.  I can’t speak to the texture of it at room temperature.  I was feeling hungry around 11am this morning after a breakfast of cereal and blueberries around 8:30.

A cool note on this product is that it claims to potentially provide all extra nutrients during pregnancy and nursing.  800mcg of folic acid, 8g protein, 18mg iron, 2g fiber, 6g fat, 14 g sugar, with 180 calories.  I also like that it is 100 percent daily value for iron AND B6.  It does tell you to consult a doctor before relying on this product solely.  I will definitely be taking my vitamins still!

Overall a very satisfying snack.

How funny, I was just telling a pregnant friend of mine about these bars! I’ll have to see what she has to say about them!

My food tip for new moms and mom’s to be…. in the weeks leading up to the birth and the weeks following, when people ask “how can I help?” ask them to bring you a healthy homemade meal or snack. Even better, one that you can stick in your freezer and get out to cook when you realize you are starving and the last thing you have time to do is make something for dinner.

  3. Melissa @ For the Love of Health Says:

When I was pregnant I craved protein and fat. My favorite snack was a sandwich actually—2 hardboiled eggs mashed egg-salad style with 1/2 an avocado and a bit of salt and pepper. I could eat this with cucumber circles, or as a sandwich between two pieces of whole grain bread. SO satisfying.

  13. Natalie D Says:

I didn’t buy the whole bellybar thing when I was pregnant. They were even more expensive than regular powerbars, so I just stuck with the powerbars, nuts and peanut butter.

  14. Sagan Says:

Such a neat idea for a bar, I’ve never heard of that. And congrats, Megan!

  15. Mr.Carrot54 Says:

The visceral response of the Waters-ite to her fellow subway riders might be an altruistic concern for the obesity-related illnesses the mother and children might face and for the carbon footprint of Pringles production, or it could be an ‘ick’ reaction to rolls of fat and artificial ranch flavoring. ,

Why would you want anyone to pretend otherwise? ,

This backward stepping breakdown process is extremely important and continues until the designer comes to a set of very basic skills. ,
