She Says: Run, Walk, Eat, Watch
Yesterday was pretty close to perfect! The weather was gorgeous and with all the people out at local parades and events, it kind of felt like Mark and I were on vacation. I started off with a quick 5 mile run to make up for my shortened long run on Sunday. It’s so funny how 5 miles seems to go by so quickly and feels like such a short run now that I run 10+ miles regularly!
I had a little snack when I got home, but I knew I wanted to hold out for lunch with Mark. I had some carrots, watermelon and the scallion hummus I made Sunday.
Then Mark and I went on a walking adventure – our favorite activity!!! First we walked to a nearby lunch spot called Cianci European Eatery on Church St. in Montclair. Neither of us had ever been there, we were both really hungry and the outdoor dining was calling our name.
I chose a sandwich: Hummus, Roasted Red Peppers, Carrots and Cucumbers on 7 Grain Bread. My sandwich and salad were good. There was lots of creamy hummus and I was happily surprised to see that my sandwich had been pressed. I suspect there was some butter on that bread though! The salad was nice and had a good light, but slightly cream vinaigrette dressing on it. I was really hungry and ate almost the whole thing!
Mark chose a Mixed Green Salad with Salmon. I knew Mark was going to be hungry after eating this. He asked for bread, ate the whole thing and yet, we still had to go to Whole Foods so he could get a bar and coconut water after lunch.
The restaurant was nice, but the service was slow!!! Other people who ordered after us, got their food first!!! Luckily the sun was shining and the breeze was blowing, so we didn’t mind. Overall, it was a nice lunch, but nothing special. We would probably try out other local lunch spots before returning.
After lunch we continued to walk for about an hour more and hung out on a bench in a park for awhile. When we got home we finished the day with a Firefly marathon. I was resistant to watch Firefly because, well it takes place in space and so I pre-judged and thought I would hate it. I loved it and enjoyed sitting on my butt and watching several hours in a row.
Close to perfection for sure! What is part of your perfect day?
Outdoor Exercise Safety
On Sunday I almost got caught in a thunderstorm and asked for outdoor exercise safety tips. Here is what you came up with.
-
Carry your cell phone or write an emergency phone number on your hand.
-
Carry a few dollars with you.
-
Wear a Road ID or carry some other form of identification.
-
Check the weather before heading out.
Thanks for the suggestions!!!!

that place looks awesome!! I like mark’s salad more than your sammy!
I hate carrying stuff on me- but I tend to run with my cell phone in hand, call my mom or jeff or someone before I start so they know where I am and to check in if they dont hear from me etc.

I love outdoor dining, it is the best! That hummus sandwich looks great, sorry you had to wait longer for it though. Sometimes places just have a bad day (or a bad person working that day, haha). Enjoy the weather!

I love sitting outside – too bad about the slow service!

Good safety advice! I really ought to get a road ID, especially now that I have a road bike. I LOVE Firefly too. I avoided it for years despite my brother’s rave reviews because of the whole sci fi thing. I finally gave it a chance and seriously watched the whole season within 3 days! and then immediately watched Serenity. I am in love with Wash and Mal…and I have a little bit of a girl crush on Kaylee.
May 26th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
aah…that sandwich looks perfect! as long as I have ONE good meal a day, that day is pretty good to me! I am SUCH a pig…I think I live to eat!
May 26th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Those meals look delicious! That sucks about the slow service, though. I hate when I’m really hungry and have to wait for my food. I get so impatient!
Ohh I love Firefly! I haven’t watched it in a while, though. My friend got me into it, and I thought I’d hate it too. Nope! Such a good show.
May 26th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
Did Mark pressure you to watch Firefly? Because my boyfriend won’t stop bugging me to watch it so I guess I should give in. Besides, Nathan Fillon = hot!
That sandwich looks delicious. I hate when you go to a restaurant and the food is great but the service is just “meh” – why can’t I have both, darnit?!
May 27th, 2009 at 12:39 am
That pizza looks so good I want to eat my monitor.

Both of your lunches look really tasty, and perfect for dining outside. Too bad the service wasn’t the best.
