She Says: What a Beautiful Day!

I accidentally started collecting iPods.
The three to the right of the iPhone all broke within the last two weeks. For about a week I was iPodless and then my sister let me borrow her red one and Mark’s dad gave me two shuffles. I used one shuffle during my 6 mile run today and it worked! Fabulous.
After my run I had some Greek Yogurt with a little melty homemade Strawberry Sorbet, and orange and a barley salad I made (recipe coming soon!).
I went to a wonderful event at Tavern on the Green tonight. Despite living only 10 blocks away at one point, I’ve never been there! It’s just as pretty and almost magical inside as it appears to be from the outside. I kind of loved the mirrored hallways!
Anyway, the event was for an organization called Green Beam that I learned about through Gena.
Here is Gena explaining how she helped her mom give up Splenda! Gena was also featured in this month’s Green Beam newsletter!
Here is some information about Beam Green:
- Beam Green is a Green Social Club for women – a forum created for the sharing of Green knowledge and wisdom in order to guide parents and children towards superior health and wellness.
- Beam Green’s mission is to be a positive eco-educational community for families that will assist in the creation of children who are strong, vibrant, and healthy that they contribute to the world in countless ways.
The members of Beam Green meet once a month at Tavern on the Green to discuss ways to make changes in your life and the lives of your family members. They always have awesome speakers and great food. Tonight’s speakers were Natalia Rose and Dr. Ginger. I want to take some time to process and think about all I learned tonight, but I will definitely come back to the evening in future posts! I already know that it left me thinking about some things I do in my own life a little differently and with the motivation to make some specific and easy changes!
Before I went I had a Peanut Butter & Banana sandwich and about 3 hours later I had this snack plate at the event.
The (vegan) sushi was really good for some reason! I also had some juice from Liqueteria and a warm green tea.
I took the bus back to New Jersey and when I got home I was pretty hungry! I try not to eat too close to bed, but I was hungry and I knew I would be ravenous in the morning, so I had another bowl of the barley salad I had at lunch.
It was a wonderful night to walk in New York and attend the Beam Green event. It was especially exciting because not only did I get to see Gena and Melissa again, but I was able to meet a new blog friend and fellow New Jersey dweller, Lauren.

How was Natalia Rose? I’ve read her raw detox books, but she came across as kind of a kook. Many good points were made, but most of the time I felt like she was talking out of her ass instead of with science or proof (other than her own personal experience) backing her up.
oh…that strawberry sorbet looks so good!!!
looking forward to read more about it!
a fun event!
Wow, that social club sounds really cool. I can’t wait to read your future recaps!

Ooh! I wish I knew about that event! Next time I think I have got to try to get there!
I’ve seen Gena talk about these events in the past and have always been curious. They sound so interesting and informative. I’d love to join you guys next time!
Hehe, that first picture looks like you have an ipod problem.

I had so much fun seeing you, dearest! And I’m really thrilled that you enjoyed the event. I truly believe that Mary is a special human being and that she’ll make waves for women and mothers everywhere.
Here’s to more hanging out soon! xoxo
What a cool event! Are you going to be at the meet-up on Friday?
I used to work right around the corner from Liquiteria. Small world!
what a pretty place!! Glad to know (well sorry to know) that I am not the only one to have iPods spontaneously just up and stop working.. very frustrating to say the least!!
Wish I was there with you!
Wow that sounds so fun! I wish I was closer…I would love to go to an event like that once in a while! That barley salad looks right up my alley, I’ll be waiting for the recipe
Oh ipods, so great yet they crap out way too often!
love the ipod collection dear, and what a wonderful event!
What a fun event. I would love to hear Natalia Rose speak, and I just love Gena. Also, Tavern on the Green would make such a wonderful setting. My mom took me to dinner there for my 18th b-day, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
Glad you found an iPod that works – that’s quite a collection Heath!
Looking forward to more of your thoughts on Green Beam.
haha whoa pod collection! Tavern on the green is a must see on my list- I think it’s those little white xmas lights on trees outside, how magical!
Barley salads are awesome… they sit in my stomach like a BRICK. I don’t get hungry for many hours after eating it.
What a cool event. I gotta look into that group, thanks! And haha I too have a collection of iPods going. It’s silly!
I’ve never hear of green beam. Thanks for spreading the word. I’ll have to google it! Also, I use my iPhone in an armband when I run. It’s a little bulky. Have you seen the new shuffle?? It’s TINY!

Mmm, I love barley, can’t wait to see the recipe!
I too have an unfortunate collection of iPods that have died and my husband just informed me that his battery is getting weaker, yay. I’m starting to think they aren’t worth it but what can you do? Haha.
Heather,
Hey darlin! It’s so great to “see” your shining face this morning!
Oh goodness! I was incredibly dependent on splenda for the longest time! I’ve switched to stevia now though. Thank goodness! I wonder if stevia is raw… Good question for Gena. Looks like the whole event was quite enjoyable though!
I can’t wait until I’m in RI and I can attend all of these fabulous foodie events too. ;P
Have a great Thursday day girlie!
With Love,
Emily
MMM that barley salad looks amazing. I will be patiently waiting for that recipe!!!!!!
