She Says: Lots of Salads in My Future

by Heather Monday, June 8, 2009

Once again, reading your comments was a high point in my day! You all have the best naming stories!

The first day of The Cleaner Life Month was a success! I left work a little early because I needed to go to the market to pick up food supplies for our last day of school party. I stopped at home first and had a nice juicy and crisp apple at around 5:30.

I got all my shopping done and made a delicious and nutritious dinner. Salad and a carrot & hummus flower.

My salad contained:

  • Lotsa lettuce
  • Trader Joe’s Sprouted Mix (lentils, peas and something else)– can you see ‘em?

  • Tomatoes
  • Cucumbers
  • Broccoli
  • Black Beans
  • Topped with Dijon Mustard and Apple Cider Vinegar

It took me so long to eat this while blogging. Yes, I am guilty of multi-tasking while eating. Shame on me.

For a sweet treat, I had a small bowl of (Greek and non-Greek) yogurt with almond butter and an agave squirt.

Perfection in a bowl!!!!

In other news …

Monica and Allison started their own versions of The Cleaner Life this month! If you’re doing it too, please comment on this post and let me know!!!!!

  2. 2 Julie says:

mmm that salad looks AWESOME :) how much apple cider vinegar do you put on in relation to the honey dijon?! I definitely wanna give that a whirl

  3. 3 Jenny says:

Mmm that huge salad is right up my alley, and so is that yogurt-almond butter snack!

Does de-cluttering my mind count? That’s my own personal version of a Cleaner Life challenge this month :)

  4. 4 Alison says:

Before I saw that you called your carrot-hummus creation a flower I thought “That looks like a hummus spider!” Then I thought “That looks like a hummus sun!” ;)

  13. 13 bobbi says:

today I did it!!!! My plan is to do it 6 out of the 7 days since there always seems to be some party I have to go to, is wine clean ;)

  14. You are diggin’ that almond butter, huh? I bought the raw crunchy TJs yesterday too, and I. LOVE. IT. I didn’t think it could get better than Maranatha!

I am kind of doing your challenge, but I am a commitment-phobe. (cough MARK cough) That and I had a beer last night. Oops.

  15. 16 lena says:

Love the salad, just the way i like mine too!!! i’m trying a little of this challange myself with a little modification as i think i won’t have the same kind of product here… but thanks for the inspiration and reminder, Heather. I actually tried this several years back, as in clean up my eating and it was wonderful for a while but fell back into my cravings a couple years back.. will give it a go again :)

  16. 17 coco says:

i’m on the cleaning eating challenge this month too! :D

  17. 18 Erica says:

  18. 19 A says:

Awesome! It’s catching on! I’ve been moving closer to a cleaner life too…. maybe I’ll make it an official challenge!

  19. 20 Holly says:

I’m trying to eat only fruits/veggies/dairy/nuts as snacks, during the week. So far so good!

And I put agave squirts (sounds kinda gross) on my plain yogurt sometimes, too. Oh but I love agave. :-)

  20. 21 brandi says:

great day of food :) The yogurt/ab looks awesome. I love warmer weather because I can and WANT to eat more salads!

  21. 22 Heather says:

Definitely on board with the cleaner life though more informally. It certainly has me looking at labels & I was shocked to find yesterday that my favorite “veggie” patties have soy added.

    Have a fantastic day!

  22. 23 Erin says:

Salads are so good. Not boring at all! I’m doing my own version of the challenge too!

  23. Hi Heaths!!

I’m not doing the challenge — NOT because I don’t want to, but because my main upgrade would be some of my beauty products and I don’t want to purchase new ones until I use the old ones up! they’re not ideal, but they’re paraben and sulfate free, at least, so I can’t justify tossing them financially :(

BUT I am supporting you 100% and loving your salads!!

    xoxo

  24. 25 K says:

Yum, yum, and MORE YUM! I have a cut in my mouth and can’t eat apples the normal way so I’m jealous you get to bite into that juicy thing ;)

  25. 26 elise says:

    sprouted lentils! yum!

  26. 27 RunToFinish says:

So far I’m feeling good about being clean..not perfect on the processed foods since I’m eating engery bars, but they are all natural and have few ingredients

  27. 28 Leslie says:

good luck with the cleaner life challenge. i am sure you are going to feel amazing after its over.

check out my Libre Tea giveaway – http://lovejackson.blogspot.com/2009/06/libre-tea-giveaway.html

  28. I love salad too. It’s interesting to see what other people combine in a bowl. Great ideas!

I hope your day is going well! :-)

  29. Definitely with you in this challenge, though it doesn’t go by that name on my blog. Just experimenting with cleaning things up gradually! It has been a conscious decision nonetheless though.

I like how you are keeping it simple – I think it will make you successful. Even though there may be a lot of oats and salads in your future and you might get bored, you’ll be inspired eventually and things will probably get fancier on their own, and within your new, cleaner parameters! (I hope this for myself too!)

  30. 31 Amanda says:

I started yesterday with you guys…but I had a hitch already!! They started the demo on the house next door so I had to rush out of the house and forgot to grab any supplies with me to bring to my parents! Which meant nothing for breafast for me today! I finally found a cliff bar…better than nothing I guess!

You salad looks so so yummy! I am looking forward to getting back home to my own food and such to make salads and green monsters again!

  31. 32 Sagan says:

I always multitask while eating too! Salad looks awfully good.

  32. I really want to do the challenge but am not ready for it all just yet. So I am cutting out white flour, soy, and sugar. I already forgot and bought soy and flax tortilla chips from TJ’s! Old habits. . .

  33. 34 Erin says:

Heather! I thought you cut out blogging while eating!
    I’m eating right now.
    We’re guilty!
