She Says: Flavors & Spices, Spices & Flavors
After reading all your comments on what I should do with my birthday money, I think I have a plan. I agree that birthday money should be used for a splurge, but my practical side dictates the following:
-
Sneakers – A physical need.
-
Yoga – A mental need.
-
Gym – Not a need. I can run and bike outdoors during the summer and fall. When it gets too cold outside, I’ll get the gym membership. Although, I am not sure where I will watch cable. I’ll just rely on others talking about TV on their blogs for now.
-
Dress – Not a need. I can borrow something from my sister & personal clothing supplier. Perhaps this will go on sale. It’s already pretty cheap.
Lots of people suggested paying for gym with yoga. I’ve tried that three times and never enjoy it. I don’t know what it is, but something about the gym environment, even if there is a separate yoga space, just doesn’t translate into peace and quality practice for me. I decided to split the cash for payment toward new sneakers and yoga.
New Bar Alert!
Everyone get excited from these new fruition bars from PROBAR that will hit stores in August in a prettier package, of course.
Fruition is a fruit based super food snack bar with whole grain organic oats, chia seeds and cashews. Each bar is vegan, 1.7 ounces, 160 calories with 4 grams of protein and sweetened with brown rice syrup.
I’ve tried the flavor labeled Peach and I really enjoyed it. It was similar in texture and style to a larabr, but perhaps a little softer or meltier. Tastewise, I liked it more than a larabar because it did not have the same sweet, taste taste that they have to me. You could really taste the peach flavor in there.
Then I ate and exercised.
For lunch before the gym I had a hummus sandwich w/ baby spinach on Dave’s Killer Bread. Today I tried the Forty Spices Tribe Hummus. I was not a huge fan of this flavor. I think there was maybe one too many spices in there or something!
On the side I enjoyed my first bag of Popchips. After seeing them on blogs far and wide, I finally got my own flavors to sample! I tried the Parmesan Garlic Flavor, which is very garlicy, but not so much Parmeseany. Definitely salty. They are light, airy and crispy (similar to Glenny’s Spud Delites) and I am glad I only got 1 serving 100 calorie bags or I would eat ‘em all at once.
Yesterday was the last day of the Cleaner Living Month and I have a lot to say about what I learned and where I will go from here, but I need more time to collect and organize my thoughts. Also, I am in a horrible mood and do not want that to color my opinion.

Those bars sound interesting… and i love your prioritized list, and the dress is adorable! Fingers crossed for a sale!
ohhh…that bars sound very interesting! can’t wait to see them in stores to try!
and love the list…but sad you didn’t like that tribe hummus as much…i def enjoy that brand the most!
Yay for bday money!! I think it was a good choice to go with the sneaks and yoga! You know your going to spend your own money on those things anyways so why not have them kind of for free
I want to try those bars, I love when bars are smaller and less calories for a little snack.
love the dress and the chips!
I like the list your practical side is dictating
Especially that dress! That new probar (PEACH?!?!?!) sounds awesome!
That dress is beautiful…like your style
I have been meaning to buy PopChips but I tend to have no portion control when it comes to “snacky” treats but the 100-cal bag sounds perfect.
That dress is super cute and I really want it. So I hope it does one day go on sale for you
Those bars sound tasty but I kind of doubt I’ll be seeing them in Canada any time soon. We’re bad on getting the good bars over here.
I’ve got popchips in my cupboard that you just reminded me about. I may have to dig in tomorrow.
That dress is great, I love the color. I’m sorry to hear about your yucky mood. Luckily, tomorrow’s not so far away!
I totally agree on the yoga… there’s nothing like the atmosphere of a good studio!
I LOVE popchips!! I’ve had the original and sea salt so far.
I think you made excellent decisions on how to spend your bday money!
I just noticed that one of your post tags is “I love anthropologie” and it made me happy! I’ve decided that if I am ever rich Anthro will still be the store I lust after, forget Guchi, Prada, etc.
Uh oh–a new bar to try. My bar stash will forever be a mountain…
40 spices sounds like a few too many…
Your reasoning makes complete sense! Although, that dress is fabulous. But you’re right…not exactly a “need.” I like your logic. Can’t wait to see what new shoes you get
ooh, pretty anthro! i bet it will go on sale eventually. keep checking!!
I think yoga is a good choice- you said ‘body’ but I always think of yoga as encompassing body, mind and spirit
Love the dress!
haha NO JOKE that is the dress I tired on at Anthropologie the other weekend with jenna and I told her to watch out for when it goes on sale becuase I thought it would be the PERFECT dress to wear for the cocktail party in Boston! HAHAhAHAHAHA sorry its jsut too funny
great plan for the money.
that’s already pretty cheap? Man, we must be more broke than I realized
i think your plan is terrific. interesting way to break it down with needs and such. maybe i should do that with my spending. the dress is sooooooooo pretty, btw…
I love your prioritized list and can fully understand why you would find that the gym doesn’t give you the same yoga experience as a studio. Can’t wait to hear about the classes you end up taking and the new shoes.
Good choices!
That dress is very pretty… Maybe you’ll have to splurge on that later, too
Popchips are soooo addicting–I have to keep my stash literally locked up because my mom and dad are addicted too! =)
