I was v. excited yesterday when I came home and found my very own shipment of Amazing Grass!!!!! After reading about it on so many of my favorite blogs, I was ecstatic to have my own and can’t wait to make lots of drinks with it. Yesterday I tried one of the Organic Green SuperFood Energy Bars – Original.
I thought it was really good. It was kind of like a larabar, but less overwhelmingly sweet. Here are the bar stats:
It was really filling!
I also tried a new hummus for lunch. It was Tribe brand and it has a good flavor, but the consistency is not nearly as creamy as Sabra or the Simply Enjoy brand from Stop & Shop.
I had it in a whole wheat flax wrap from Trader Joe’s in an effort to conserve my Dave’s Killer Bread.
On the side I had my daily dose of Greek Yogurt with plain Oikos and ground flax.
Query: I have a little bit of birthday money to spend. Would you spend it on:
New running sneakers – Mine are from Christmas and endured one half marathon.
Yoga – I miss attending classes at a studio.
Gym Membership – My membership expires in 6 days.
Cocktail Dress – For the Healthy Living Summit’s Friday night cocktail party?
Something else?

I can’t wait to try Amazing Grass! (one of these days, hopefully
)
I am torn between the new running shoes and the cocktail dress. The sneakers seem to have longer-term appeal, but it’s ALWAYS fun getting a new dress and feeling great for an event like the cocktail party
On a side note, I can’t wait to meet you!

I love the amazing grass chocolate covered superfood bar! It’s the only one that actually DID give me energy!
I’d go cocktail dress and new shoes for the dress, but thats me
July 8th, 2009 at 8:00 am
i hadn’t even thought about wearing a dress to the cocktail party! normally i’m completely on top of these things. i need to check out my closet!
i’d be torn between the yoga classes or running shoes. after recently beginning to attend classes rather than doing it at home, i think there is something really special about going to the studio. but if your running shoes are getting worn down, that’s the safe option!
July 8th, 2009 at 8:23 am
I was wondering what people were going to wear that weekend…I need to go dress shopping.
I’d probably go for the running shoes, mainly because I need a new pair myself!
July 8th, 2009 at 8:23 am
I was torn between the gym membership or the sneakers but since it is summer, and you can run outside, I would definitely go for the sneaks
July 8th, 2009 at 8:35 am
ooooh, I would say yoga or dress (I made a deal with myself that if I attain a certain goal in 1 month I will buy a package of yoga classes at the studio) and I love dresses….and apparently not that into exercise
July 8th, 2009 at 8:41 am
I would probably say the dress, since the gym membership and running shoes I would have signed up for with or without the birthday money. Dresses seem so special to me, and I usually talk myself out of buying new ones because they aren’t completely 100% necessary and I already have a couple dresses in my closet.
July 8th, 2009 at 8:44 am
Sneakers or yoga. Probably yoga.
July 8th, 2009 at 8:48 am
i can’t wait to see your review of the amazing grass! I really want to try the bars + the chocolate meal and berry one.
I would say either shoes (since you KNOW you’re running another half) or a dress
or BOTH! Find them on sale and you can have the best of both worlds.
July 8th, 2009 at 8:56 am
i’d split it between yoga and new running sneakers! think of it as a discount on both
hehehe. cuz if you are running you DEF need new sneaks, you can even rotate them with your older ones, but get some new ones to avoid injury!!
July 8th, 2009 at 9:02 am
I’m a runner so I’m biased, but I would definitely say new running shoes. Why? Shoes wear out after about 400 miles, and I’m guessing that you have gone way more than that since Christmas. I tend to need new shoes every three months, and I think I only run a little more than you (30-50 miles a week). You’re putting yourself at risk for injury without the proper support of new shoes.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:06 am
Gosh, that’s so hard! I would want all those things! But I definitely wouldn’t be able to give up my gym membership, and I have yoga classes there. Could you look into a gym that comes with classes? I love new dresses and running shoes though! Ah! Good luck : )
July 8th, 2009 at 9:25 am
It may be practical, but it’s not as much FUN spending birthday money on something you need, like running shoes, so I would opt for the dress, or yoga. But they all sound like really good choices!
Love Amazing
July 8th, 2009 at 9:27 am
Hmmm…what a hard question! I think I’d go for the running sneakers, just from reading your blog and your daily mileage! You run a lot!
In terms of yoga classes, you can always find discounted or free classes throughout the City online! And the cocktail dress? If you do some good searching, maybe you can get it at a deep discount somewhere
I’d first rummage through the closet to see if there’s anything in there you might have forgotten about!
July 8th, 2009 at 9:34 am
I just joined a new gym so I would opt for that or the yoga, preferably if you can combine them into one. It’s true you can find free yoga classes by I myself have found that the style of the instructor and the class is really important to me so I’m a little picky. I recently joined Equinox because it allowed me to get my yoga AND my gym all in one location. It’s a bit pricy but after doing a thorough review I found that they had more yoga classes (and a dedicated yoga studio that is very similar to the Yoga Studio experience) than most gyms and great instructors. Plus I found that getting a monthly membership to a yoga studio was just as much as Equinox so it seemed a better value.
But then again I’m not a runner so maybe if I was I would feel differently. Dresses are also a fun splurge though. If you have an outlet mall near you I’ve been finding incredible deals at mine lately.

That Amazing Grass bar looks yummy!
I would go for the shoes…and then look for a super cute cocktail dress on sale (most stores have summer stuff on sale now!).
July 8th, 2009 at 10:03 am
Like the others I’d go for the shoes or dress. Amazing Grass looks quite interesting.
July 8th, 2009 at 10:06 am
I vote SHOES!! New running shoes are the best.
Lucky girl with your Amazing Grass samples- I’m jealous!
July 8th, 2009 at 10:14 am
I would pick the yoga class or the gym. For me, having membership or a class to go to helps with exercise motivation, and makes it a priority instead of a “should.” I bet that you’ll find a great dress on sale, stores are getting ready for fall now!
July 8th, 2009 at 10:16 am
If your shoes are starting to wear down due to the 1/2 marathon, def. spring for new shoes!! As someone who has sustained foot injuries from marathon training, your feet are SO important and it’s crucial to take good care of them
July 8th, 2009 at 10:18 am
Running shoes!
July 8th, 2009 at 10:31 am
yoga for sure!
July 8th, 2009 at 10:38 am
YOGA!!
July 8th, 2009 at 10:48 am
Ha, can I choose all of those things?
I would go with running sneakers. Since it’s summertime, you can get away without a gym membership for the time being, so you might as well get new shoes to run outside in! Yoga classes would be awesome, but still not necessary since you CAN do it from home. My thoughts anyways, can’t wait to hear what you pick!
July 8th, 2009 at 11:22 am
I vote yoga since you miss it. Your running shoes should probably be good for another 6 months, I’d say? They last for around 300 miles, right? Or maybe you’ve run that much already this year?
I’m thinking about posting my Cleaner Life Month recap today at lunch. Are you going to post one soon?
July 8th, 2009 at 11:23 am
I say yoga, but I’m biased because I choose not to run. Definitely not the gym because you can run outside (but then again, that’s where you watch cable). So wait, I change my mind… I say you buy cable for your house!!!!!!
Also, amazing grass sounds like something you’d find at a Phish concert.
BYEEEEEE
July 8th, 2009 at 11:25 am
Cocktail dress! Birthday money should be spent on a treat! Dress shopping is always tons of fun :O)
July 8th, 2009 at 11:55 am
a dresssss!!!!!
July 8th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Wow. All of those are good birthday spending, but I think I’d do the dress. You’ll most likely eventually pay for all the others. The dress is completely a fun purchase and bday money should be for fun.
July 8th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
i am a running shoe freak so that would be my choice!
July 8th, 2009 at 12:23 pm
You do have an amazing grass. I would get the yoga membership and ditch the running shoes altogether. WHO AM I?!
July 8th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
Birthday money should always equal something frivolous. Either go with the dress, or something else you don’t really “need” but want
I’m partial to electronics or jewellery myself.
I am intrigued by all this Amazing Grass I see everywhere. Perhaps one day I will get to see what all the fuss is about.
July 8th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
Sounds like you need new running shoes!!! Trust me get a new pair.
Also I need a new dress for Boston as well! In fact I need a whole new wardrobe for the trip!
July 8th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Running shoes or yoga, definitely!! Whatever you decide to spend it on, enjoy!
July 8th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Your running shoes are old! Get new ones!
July 8th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Such a hard decision! If your shoes are worn out, shoes for sure. Dresses you can find for super cheap if you shop around. And I agree, maybe shop around for a gym that does yoga classes?
And the amazing grass looks yummy! If something can look filling, that does.
July 8th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
hmm tough call — i, personally, would spend it on yoga — but thats just the yogini in me. I know you’re an avid runner so if your old ones are worn out then that may be a great investment for sure! especially because they’re permanent — unlike yoga classes because when the class is over, it’s over.. ya know? be sure to let us know what you choose! I don’t think you can go wrong with anything
July 8th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
I’d go gym membership, then shoes. For some reason, I NEED to have a gym membership (my gym’s cheap, though). I know one can be perfectly fit without one…but I have the phobia that if I cancel my membership, I’ll stop working out and gain a bunch of weight
silly, I know
July 8th, 2009 at 6:48 pm
I’d definitely pay for yoga studio classes, they’re soooooooo good, worth every penny~

i haven’t had greek yogurt all week
i’m going through withdrawl!!!
July 9th, 2009 at 7:46 am
How many miles have you logged on the shoes overall? If they’re worn out, I’d spring for new ones. Otherwise, I’d choose yoga classes all the way
