She Says: Happiness that Doesn’t Pass.
Sukha.
One of my favorite parts of yoga is the story telling and lessons that I learn from them. Tonight my teacher told a wonderful story about “staying in your own lane,” or being true to yourself. Her story was beautiful and involved, but the lesson was simply – stay on your path and true happiness will come, the kind of happiness that doesn’t pass.
There are times when I am super excited, on a high, absolutely loving life. Those times are great and I am fortunate that those times are more frequent than the times I am sad, heartbroken, distracted or depressed. I think both ends of the spectrum are important, but both are temporary feelings that are caused by something external. I am happy if I have a great run. I am sad when someone hurts me. Those things do not stay. I can be happy because I have a nice butt. I can be sad because my stomach is not flat. Those things are fleeting as well. I think sukha, the feeling of contentment with simply being, is the best part.
Here is Mark with chips and in the midst of How I Met your Mother. Sukha.
Before yoga I had a Peach Fruition Bar. I really like these. I stick them in the fridge so they are more solid and less sticky than straight from the package in the hot hot kitchen.
When I got back from yoga I made a quick dinner using Tempehtations Classic BBQ Flavored Tempeh Cubes.
The convenience of these cannot be beat! According to the package, you can eat it straight from the bag or cook them. I cooked them on the stove for about 3 minutes. I noticed the flavor was not all that powerful and actually reminded me of hot dogs, so I added more BBQ Sauce and put it on a salad.
I topped it with some apple, cucumbers and raw corn off the cob and seeds (I think sunflower) from Oh! Nuts. It was fast and tasty. The only negative was the size of a serving. While it was fine for me, half a pouch was not going to cut it for Mark who added cheese and chips to his salad.
I also tried my Trader Joe’s Mini Peanut Butter Crackers today. Yeah. These are a little too easy to pop into your mouth! I had seconds.

What a lovely meditation, Heather! I love the stories in yoga, too. Thanks for this — happy Friday, my friend
xoxo
yeah i always choose to cook my tempeh too….though one of these days i’ll just eat it raw, like the package says. just like when i ate a kiwi with the skin for the first time – just do it!!!
I am not a fan of those tempehtations, although, to be fair, I have only tried one flavor. I do NOT recommend the lemon one. I really like the Turtle Island marinated tempeh strips though.
It makes me happy that you watching Mark eat Archer Farms potato chips while watching HIMYM makes you happy. You guys will make if forever. I’d put money, or hummus and barbecue sauce, on it.
Ah Heath, I miss you. John asked me on a date today. Going to our favorite Italian restaurant and then Barnes & Noble sometime this weekend. It’s the simple things.
And this is why I love your blog.
I loved your post! I, too, learn so much from yoga class and often look forward to the stories and words of wisdom. I really enjoyed reading what your teacher said – simple yet so profound. And Mark is way too adorable eating his chips – he looks as happy as a clam!
Tempeh that tastes like hot dogs, I think I’ll have to pass.
I love what your yoga teacher had to say. Thanks for sharing. Staying in your own lane can be challenging, but she’s right.
Cute little bowl you have your crackers in!
An plese don’t ever be sad that your stomach is flat!!!
I also go from the top of the world to in the depths of despair pretty easily. Definitely not as much as I did in high school and college, mainly since life has become less dramatic, but your post was really helpful in allowing me to recognize that in myself.
Enjoy himym!
Glad you like those little cracker sandwiches–I am thinking it might have been a good thing I didn’t get them since they look addicting!
Peanut butter crackers are crack no matter their size. As is HIMYM
First time commenting – out from Longtime Lurkerville:)
Thanks for the review on the Lightlife tempeh – always wanted to try those!
Those Fruition bars sound great; love the packaging – I’m an advertiser’s dream!
Last week when I went to Trader Joe’s I bought chocolate covered peanut butter crackers. They are also labeled Organic so I guess they are the same crackers yet dipped in chocolate.
I’ve been wanting to try those tempehtations but was a little nervous because I tried marinated tofu once and wasn’t a big fan. My mouth was watering when I saw your salad though – I think I may have to try.
Also, while I love the physical, butt kicking nature of yoga, I think the feeling of wholeness and contentment that you find after is what is so amazing. I was just telling my boyfriend yesterday that I really think yoga has boosted my confidence. Yay for that!
thank you for the shout out, friend <3
i totally want to try one of those fruition bars- they look amazing!
love the meditation from yoga, so true and i often need to be reminded of that
hope you have a happy saturday!
Those peanut butter crackers are so addicting. I like how you portioned ‘em out.
Also cute picture of Mark!
I think putting the Fruition bar in the fridge would help a lot! I also heard putting the amazing grass bars in the fridge makes them taste better. I’m going to try that. The Time Traveler’s Wife was really good by the way!
I just started wearing the running skirts a few weeks ago and love them! The 1st one I bought didn’t have a drawstring and so the waist is just a little big. Then I got two Nike Fit XS size and they are perfect. I love them! My mom and sister(also a runners) makes fun of me in it but I really love they way they feel! Try a couple of different styles.
oh I read suhka as like slang for sucker for a minute. that’s why you shouldn’t skim people! Love the idea
I had never heard of “suhka” before. I love it! I also love what you said about certain feelings and emotions being fleeting. It’s hard for me to remember that sometimes, especially when I’m feeling down. Next time, I’m going to yell, “sukha” and see what happens
I think it will elicit a nice reaction from Bobby (“um, what?”) that will make me smile again.
What? That’s not the way I’m supposed to use the term?
I just tried Tempehtations the other day! I had the ginger teriyaki kind and just mixed it in with a salad. Very good, but kinda pricey!
mmm that TJ’s find looks AMAZING!!!!! if i bought them i know i would seriously eat all of them at one time! woops! hahah
That’s a great idea to put the bars in the fridge. I’m going to have to remember that!
ah.may.zing message — i am a firm believer in the power of positive thinking .. sure, i can wallow in self pity that i don’t have jlo’s ass or jessica simpsons breasts.. at the end of the day, if i can find happiness in myself and who i am – that’s all that matters. thanks for sharing, heather!
I liked your yoga anecdote, very nice! And although I can’t eat soy, that looks like a handy product and you made it look really yum..nice seeds on top.
Those Archer Frams chips are GREAT! I love the Smoked Bacon and Cheddar.
ju got me cravin tempehhhh
I could be wrong but I think those might be pepitas (pumpkin seeds)! Which is great since they are super good for you – they are chockfull of magnesium, tryptophan, iron and zinc!
MarathonVal: Maybe that’s what they were, but they didn’t seem like regular pumpkin seeds – they were … puffier.
