She Says: Homemade Hermits
Mark was having some people over for his weekly podcast, so I decided to make them cookies. I wanted to make oatmeal, but I didn’t have brown sugar. I did, however, have a giant container of molasses. I researched some recipes and used this one as a base. My version is very similar, but I changed as follows:
-
1/2 cup butter
-
3/4 C agave
-
2 eggs
-
6 tablespoons molasses
Sift together and stir in:
-
1 3/4 cups whole wheat pastry flour
-
1 teaspoon baking soda
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Stir in:
-
2 cups rolled oats
-
1/2 cup raisins
Drop rounded spoonfuls about 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake until lightly browned. 350* 10 minutes
These cookies taste exactly like the Newman’s Own Hermits, which was an exciting surprise! My tip is to take them out before you think they are done. Even if they look a little mushy, they will harden up and still be soft. If you let them cook until they look done, they will probably be a little too hard when cooled.
One of Mark’s friends has the fanciest camera. He took pictures of the cookies and let me play with the soup!
Thanks for the use of your wonderful camera Frank!

This posts reminds me so much of why I need both cookies and a new camera. I’m not sure which is more impressive! GORGEOUS.

Hey dude, please eat the soup instead of just taking photos of it! I am very interested to see if the veggies and pasta are super mushy or not.

I love hermits! I take all my cookies out before they’re supposed to be done. I like them soft and chewy.

Those look delish.. I love Newman’s Own, but I always hesitant to buy the Hermits because I wasn’t entirely sure what they would look/taste like, aka I wasn’t sure they’d be worth the money. If I can make my own AND they look like that? Even better!
