She Says: Bargain Pizza
I am currently enjoying a mug of Coffee Cocoa, which is such fun way to start the day. Unfortunately, I did not have any whipped cream to make the real thing.
Last night I scored a bargain at the supermarket. This Kashi Mexicali Black Bean Pizza was 50% off at the supermarket and I had a $1 off coupon, so was was $6.99 cost me $2.50!
I love a deal, but I have to say I would have been annoyed if this little thing cost me $7!
The toppings were a little scant and I believe the best part was the thin crust. I didn’t like the taste of the veggies on top – they were soaked in some kind of spicy sauce – so I picked them off. It was super spicy and way too small. I was still starving after eating a 1/3 portion, so I ended up eating much more.
Mark wants to show you something else we found at the market. Manzanita Sol, according to Mark, tastes like watered down Sour Apple Jolly Ranchers.
On the foot front, I guess I am healing nicely, but my patience is starting to wear thin. I hate just sitting around and I am starting to feel really useless and gross. I am hoping to be able to start doing some kind of exercise this week for my mental sanity. Hopefully, getting out of the house and being at work today will improve my mood.
Enjoy the day!

Wow, the toppings on that pizza really are small. I’ve never tried the Kashi pizzas.

I have the same problems with Kashi pizzas. They are WAY too expensive for what you actually get.
Hope your day perks up soon!
November 9th, 2009 at 8:28 am
yah, kashi pizzas have been a disappointment. amy’s is def a better way to go if you’re gonna buy them like that.
November 9th, 2009 at 8:44 am
Geez, could Kashi spare some cheese? What a scan little pizza.
Sending positive vibes to your foot!

I love when I find deals like that – too bad it didn’t taste awesome, too.
Aaaand on the “pumpkin chips comment”…I’m an idiot. I don’t know where my brain was. I was THINKING about how awesome pumpkin chips would be, decided there was probably no such thing (to my knowledge)…and meant to type CINNAMON CHIPS (which rock my world), but typed “pumpkin chips” instead. Long weekend I guess?
Have a great Monday.

I hope the foot heals up soon! Best wishes!
November 9th, 2009 at 9:15 am
You’re not kidding when you say “scant toppings” – what a rip-off! Bummer
Hoping your foot heals asap!

I’ve always wanted to try the Kashi pizzas, but never do because they are too small. It would take 2 pizzas to fill up John and me. I’m glad you said that the veggies were soaked in spicy sauce, because as much as I like sauces of all kinds, I like the natural flavor of veggies on pizza. Hummmm, can’t wait for Tomato City in a few weeks!!!!!!
November 9th, 2009 at 9:32 am
Sorry the pizza wasn’t spectacular. I hope your foot starts to heal faster. I can only imagine not being able to do much. I sure you’re still beautiful and not at all gross.
November 9th, 2009 at 10:20 am
Hope your foot gets better and that you’ll feel better too.

There’s practically no toppings. Not fair. I guess since you didn’t like that that’s okay though.
That soda does taste like pure candy. I used to love getting spanish sodas for my students when we would have food festival days. They really like the Coco (coconut) flavor.

I like the idea of a black bean pizza but the toppings on that baby do look a little scant! I want to try making my own homemade version with tons of peppers, onions, black beans and a salsa base!! Yum Yum. Glad the foots feeling better- hang in there

I agree with you on the Kashi pizzas – they are a nice concept and look great on the box, but I am always disappointed when I open them up. Often I will buy the cheeseless one, add goat cheese, and extra veggies (basically I am just buying it for the crust haha)
Maybe you could find something on YouTube or ExerciseTv – pilates?? That really doesn’t require your feet and the core workout always makes me feel so great. OR you could try boxing of some sort? The one Jillian Michaels DVD that I have always mentions (and by always, I mean every time I do it) that boxing is great for someone with a lower body injury.

Hope you’re feeling a little better soon, sweetie, and that you can stretch your legs. xo
November 9th, 2009 at 11:19 am
I hear ya girl! Sitting around for too long makes me nuts!
November 9th, 2009 at 11:19 am
I’ve found frozen “health” pizzas to pretty much always be disappointing. Pizza might just be the type of thing that’s best to just go ahead and enjoy the real thing (in moderation).
November 9th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Whoa, that is quite possibly one of the saddest frozen pizzas I’ve ever seen. I love Kashi cereals and bars, but I can’t say the same for their overpriced frozen meals. They need to work on that!
November 9th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
What a great deal! I bought that brand once and had to add way too much stuff to make it edible to justify buying it again.
Hope you get to get some exercise in!
November 9th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
hang in there!! enjoy your coffee (and tea??) moments– they definitely help make sitting time more enjoyable. also– i highly recommend taking long showers. this is how i calm down whenever i feel ick.

Oh wow-may I ask which store you found the drink at?
I spent a few weeks in Mexico when I was in high school and fell in love with this drink called Manzana Lift. It was SOOO good and I haven’t been able to find it anywhere!
November 9th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
Dude. I was practically raised on the sugar bomb that is Mexican soda. That’s just how we roll in Texas, I guess. Also, that pizza is shameful which is strange because I am generally impressed with Kashi products.
November 9th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
Mark looks very serious (and a bit proud) holding his new Mexican soda. Too funny!
November 9th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Ya kind of get what you pay for with frozen pizza, huh? Now Mexican soda…that you can’t put a price on.
November 9th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
HA it is kinda scary that the frozen and post-baked pizza pic…look exactly the same!!!!
Feel Better heath!
November 9th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Great deal! I actually really like the taste the of that pizza, although I usually top it with more toppings and eat it along side something else as well.
November 9th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
What is it with pizza and skimpy toppings–grr!
November 9th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
Yeah, I seem to find Kashi pizzas are often very few and far between! I still like them once in awhile but when it comes to frozen pizzas, Amy’s is hard to beat (at least in my opinion
November 9th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
Ugh – I hear you about the lack of exercise/movement… while shadowing trainers at the gym tonight I SO badly wanted to do the workouts with the clients! lol
November 10th, 2009 at 12:05 am
I’ve never tried any of the Kashi pizzas, so I appreciate the info!
November 10th, 2009 at 10:55 am
Again, I am with you on the useless and gross front. But don’t worry. Things need time to heal, and you’ll be back into it before you know it.
November 10th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
OMG would you believe that those stupid Kashi pizzas cost like $8 or $9 in my grocery store?! Robbery! I went through a major Kashi pizza obsession for a while and I actually liked that Mexicali one with the tomatillos and all, but yours looks pretty pathetic – maybe you got a crappy one. Whatever – I’m over it. I can make a much mroe delicious and healthy pizza for much less than $8!
November 11th, 2009 at 6:06 pm
Woooohooo! Coffee Cocoa
Totally hear ya on the lack of whipped cream. I’m currently out and it makes such a huge difference to me for some strange reason.
That Kashi pizza is definitely a little pathetic. Sometimes you do not get what you pay for — good thing you got a deal you bargain shopper you!
I’m so sorry about the foot issues. I know I’ve said it on Fbk but haven’t said it yet here (bad blog commenter) but I’m thinking of you and wishing a speedy recovery!
November 13th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
I love the Kashi pizza. At Whole Foods it’ll run you about $8 but you can get it at Food Basics in Passiac for only $4something! Insane right? We’ll take a ride one day
November 16th, 2009 at 2:04 am
That is why I hate to buy premade frozen pizzas – they are skimpy on the toppings, and never distribute them evenly over the crust. Plus they are expensive! Much better to make your own, but sometimes you do just want that convenience.
