She Says: Cookbook Giveaway Time!
I made some delicious soup tonight, and Mark liked it so much that he requested that I make variations of it once a week. It was Peanut with Sweet Potato Soup that we ended up eating with a bowl of brown rice. Sadly, I can’t share the recipe because it’s from a cookbook. But believe me, it was amazing!
The recipe comes from Dollars to Donuts: Comfort Food and Kitchen Wisdom from Route 66s Landmark Cafe, a book filled with tons of comfort recipes that will not cost a lot of money, in fact, each recipe lists the recipe’s cost.
This soup, for example, was unlike anything I’ve made and I loved it. It’s based on a Peanut Sauce used for three recipes in the book. It has a ton of great recipes I can use (there are a lot of meat recipes, but the ideas translate to meatless) and am excited to try out. Here is some of what is on my “To Make” list from this cookbook:
- No Cook Garden Vegetable Sauce
- Couscous with Dried Fruit, Butternut Squash & Tumeric
- Homemade Wonton Soup
- Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Pie with Press-In Butter Crust
- Three Banana Bread
- Pantry Veggie Burgers
- Red Beans & Rice
Doesn’t it have a lot of variety?
Continuing with my recent theme of Holiday Giveaways, I am happy to be able to give away a copy of Dollars to Donuts! Please leave a comment here to enter. I’ll pick a winner randomly on Monday, December 14th. Good luck!

Soup sounds great! I love me a good cookbook
It’s one of my dreams to drive Route 66 from beginning to end. Maybe I can live vicariously through the recipes in this cookbook until I can afford to make such a trip!
I really enjoy your blog!
The soup does sound fantastic. I love new cookbooks but always feel bad spending money on them because I have so many already and of course a million sources online (like blogs!). A free cookbook is a different story though
Looks like a really informative, useful cookbook! I’m forever trying to save money, so this would be perfect!
This would be perfect for my dad!!
Sounds interesting!
