She Says: Giveawy – Thrive Fitness

by Heather Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Recently I received a copy of Thrive Fitness to read, review and give away to you!

Brendan Frazier, author of Thrive: The Vegan Nutrition Guide (reviewed by me here), wrote this follow-up book as a guide to developing stronger, more efficient muscles quickly. Specifically, the books is advertised as being about to teach how you can:

  • Sculpt, strong, lean functional muscles that move with grace and ease
  • Prevent sports injuries and strengthen, bones, tendons and ligaments
  • Reduce body fat and inflammation
  • Increase sleep quality and energy levels
  • Choose top foods to fuel performance before, during and after exercise
  • Prepare whole food, plant-based, sport-specific recipes based on Thrive nutrition principles.

I am still reading it, but so far it’s been interesting. I like the idea behind a vegan-based fitness plan. As a vegetarian I amĀ  to people asking me, “What do you eat for protein,” and this book continues to look at that question. I actually skipped to chapter 6 “Fuel for Fitness” and read it first! Additionally, it gives specific workout plans and includes lots of pictures detailing how to do specific moves.

If you are interested in winning your very own copy, please comment below. I will choose a winner Thursday at 10:00 PM EST.

Good Luck!

I think this book sounds very interesting. I’m always interested in learning new ways to improve and push myself. I don’t think that I could go vegan, but I think that incorporating some days as “vegan” days will help me to eat healthier as well as being green (no meat). Thanks!

I’m very inspired by the important work Mr Brazier is doing, it’s important to realize that commercializing (without degrading or ’subsidizing’ the essentials of the message just for popular consumption) is an equally substantial move in the right direction towards making this journey to wellbeing a total human experience, a planetary initiative, a global concern. Mr Brazier, by adding the academic dimension, in his collaboration with Universities and commercial sports training institutes and events, is doing just that…making health, true health, clean health, planet/earth based health, an essential part of the human discourse in this very interesting development phase we as a planet are presently undergoing…imagine, transforming sports culture, dietarily, means shifting the substance of competitive ideas, it brings about a new dimension of sports consciousness…it may just create the longed for role modelism pined for in society when we look up to those great figures who conquer all physical thresholds in their disciplines…Mr Brazier is tapping into an essential, and essentially undiscussed, component of our varied human/global development discourse…Thrive Fitness! Another good book about being healthy and losing weight, and the mind-body connection involved is The MindBody FX Lifestyle by Melonie Dodaro. It’ includes information about metabolic imbalances, negative thinking and nutrition. Give it a look.
