She Says: See Food, Eat More Food?
Today I ran home for lunch and found package from Oikos waiting for me.
New Chocolate and Caramel Greek Yogurts wrapped up like cupcakes.
I had the new Caramel flavor with lunch.
I normally buy plain yogurt, so I was afraid this was going to be sickeningly sweet. I am glad I was wrong! It was a creamy, caramel treat. So so wonderful – I can’t adequately describe how creamy it was! It had 110 calories, 0 g fat, 16 g sugar and 10 g protein.
For lunch I threw together a quick salad with some Gardein Seven Grain Crispy Tenders that I bought with coupons they sent me. A serving is 2 little fingers, but I don’t know who that’s serving. I have 3 or 4 at a time. These are my favorite Gardein product, probably the only thing I would buy with my own money. If you get them definitely take the time to cook them on a Foreman or in the oven for the extra crispy factor.
My salad also contained mixed veggies, raisins, hummus and a slice of bread for dunking in the hummus with an orange on the side.
My afternoon/pre-running snack was a Cherry Larabar. Off to run – “If I can, I must!”
Do you feel that sometimes your focus on food comes from blogging and/or reading other food blogs? I sometimes find myself getting hungry reading all these food blogs.
Interesting question. First, I think I might appear to be more focused on food than I am because it’s what I write about here. Second, reading food blogs (or cookbooks or magazines) and watching food shows on T.V. doesn’t make me physically hungrier, but it might make me want something I see or read about (i.e. Blogger Friend just had some ice cream, so I would like/should get to have some ice cream now). This can be a positive influence too. If someone makes an awesome salad, it will also make me crave a salad.
For the most part though, I read about food for research or planning purposes – i.e. I’m looking for a recipe or reading about a certain topic. When I am in that reader mode it really has no impact on me.
What about you? Does reading food blogs, magazines and cookbooks or watching food shows make you hungrier or influence your eating?

it totally does. but at the same time i think it’s good practice for me to see things that look and sound amazing and then be able to refrain from eating if i’m truly not hungry. and then it just gives me something to look forward to the rest of the day!
i don’t think i’ve mentioned that i love your new mantra
ive been saying it to myself today. that oikos packaging is too cute!
I think it occasionaly does, but it all depends on my mood. I love food, so seeing something delicious ALWAYS appeals to me. But I can usually decipher between that feeling of wanting it because I’m hungry, and wanting to make it tomorrow night for dinner because it looks wonderful.
I think if anything it makes me more creative. If I step away from the computer or TV, usually that hunger that just popped up will go away. I do think about food a lot more, but that’s more planning and imaging meals.
That packaging from Oikos is so adorable!
I do think it impacts what I eat because I get great ideas from the blogs I read but I would not say that it makes me physically hungrier. The same with watching the Food Network, I do it for the ideas and inspiration though I must admit, I don’t have much time for Food Network anymore with all the blogs I read
If I am reading blogs close to meal times, then I do find I get really hungry reading the blogs, but for the most part, I’m okay.
If there is a recipe I really want to try, I mark it and save it for a later meal planning session, unless I have the items at home and don’t have a set meal for that night.
I really am finding that reading blogs has made me a much healthier eater and more conscious of the food choices I am making.
Mostly blogs just give me inspiration for meals, it’s very rare that something will make me hungry right on the spot. If I am already hungry, maybe.
What a fun package!
It doesnt make me hungier, but it increases my appetite. I’d say any influence is for the better. Sometimes, I have no clue what I want until I see it and think “THATS the flavor I’m looking for”
It doesn’t make me hungrier, but it makes me wish there were more meal times during the day so I could try more things!!
I don’t eat more it just makes me want to try new stuff. I never would have tried Almond butter and greek yogurt without blogs.
I wouldn’t say it makes me hungrier, but I do get new ideas and inspirations from food blogs all the time!
Heh – my French class has been talking about food for the last couple of sessions (ordering in restaurants, that sort of thing), and I get out of each class starving for lunch! Reading about food definitely makes me want to eat more, that’s for sure.
It doesn’t make me hungrier, but I always get inspiration for meals from blogs, cookbooks, show, etc and I read them for that reason. I always put my own spin on it, but I’m always up for ideas.. and like Cynthia, I would have never tried almond butter, flax, kale chips without blogs
i think i do tend to eat more…. but it could be other life factors, not so much the blog. i do love all the ideas i get
I wouldn’t say it makes me hungrier, but it definitely makes me crave certain foods or want to try an interesting new meal or snack. Overall I think it’s a good thing! Now, if I were really really hungry (and for some reason unable to satisfy that hunger), I don’t think reading food blogs would be my activity of choice in that moment.
I had those tenders for dinner last night, and uh, yeah, I ate 4. I love the Oikos packaging…so adorable! I get a lot of recipe inspiration and find new products via food blogs and the Food Network. Plus Tyler Florence is a hot piece of ass.
I agree with you and think there is a difference in food blogs making me hungrier and food blogs influencing how I eat. I don’t think they actually affect my hunger level or when I eat, but they have definitely affected HOW I eat
Such an interesting question after a post in which every picture made my mouth water! My shopping is definitely impacted by blog reading – if I see a product I haven’t tried yet (caramel oikos, gardein chik’n tenders) and they get a good review – I want them! I don’t get hungry or eat because of it, but I do look forward to eating.
I dont think reading food blogs makes me hungrier but I agree that it influences me in some ways. When I first started blogging I was really worried that I was developing some bad attitudes towards food becuase I was feeling guilt, worry, and sometimes shame when I would eat not 100% healthy. I feel like Im in a much better, non comparative place now but it kind of caught me off guard!
I think it only makes me realize that I am hungry. This happened to me yesterday…I was reading the blogs in the afternoon and all of a sudden I was starving.
YUMMMMMMM! I wonder if we all got them at the same time?
I can’t read blogs after a meal or my body tricks me into thinking I am hungry again.
My main “problem” with food is just having yummy stuff in the house. I can read blogs or watch Food Network all day long- if there isn’t snacky stuff in my house, I’m not gonna go out and buy it. But, if I have the stuff in my house…even if I’m not hungry- especially at night, I find myself grazing. This is the #1 thing I’m working on right now. Only eating at meals. Tough One!
Blogging usually has some sort of effect on me to make me feel a bit hungrier, regardless of whether or not I just ate. This is usually a good thing for me because I probably filled up on water during the last meal and need more food anyways.
In general it’s just really fun (and appetizing… most of the time) to see what/how other people eat. ^_^
I would like to think that reading blogs does not influence me to eat, but there are times when I am reading blogs at night and suddenly get the urge to go search the fridge for a snack. Most of the time I’m not even hungry, but when I see such yummy looking food it makes me want to eat!
First I gotta say, I am also obsessed with the 7-grain gardein chik’n and am imagining a million ways to serve them up. Erin really is something else, I like her classes a lot – I didn’t know she does Sunday so I’ll have to check them out during the challenge! I’m sure I’ll run into you at the studio under less insane circumstances. Personally, blogs inspire me to try new things with my food and be on the look out for new products. I don’t get hungry so much – sometimes just get food envy!
Definitely makes me self conscious to see what other people eat. Thank goodness I look at the healthy things though. Some cooking shows gross me out.
I love the okios box! how did you get that hookup?
Katherine
Reading blogs definitely affect my food choices. I read blogs to be inspired & reading them does just that for me. I love putting my own spin on an old favorite…
yes, most things make me hungry.
No matter how many times I’ve seen them today, I can’t get over that those yogurts are wrapped up like cupcakes- soo cute!
I really don’t feel like it does. I see food on blogs (or cookbooks or whatever) that I think looks good and will take note of it, but it doesn’t really ever make me hungry.
As an avid food network watcher I long left behind food cravings when presented with beautiful food images. Conversely, for a while, reading blogs made me really insecure about my eating habits and I really struggled with myself for a while because most blogs I read are written by successful and healthy women and I was feeling like neither of those things. Interestingly enough, starting my own blog allowed me to overcome many challenges with eating that I faced initially and is the platform and often the motivation for me to work through other issues I face.
Reading food blogs doesn’t necessarily make me hungry. It excites and ignites me to try out different foods though.
I’d say most of the influence blog reading has on me is positive. Getting new ideas for meals/snacks, as well as the attitude a lot of bloggers have toward food, are reasons I read.
2 pieces per serving?? Sometimes those serving sizes are so crazy. I once had a box of waffle that listed 1/3 of the waffle of a serving. Who eats 1/3 of a normal size waffle? I think the new food labeling standards will stop this from happening.
I don’t get hungrier from blogs but Food Network or cooking shows definitely make me want to eat, especially if they are making a dessert. I do think though reading lots of food blogs/watching cooking shows etc can make some people more food obsessed especially if they have ongoing issues with disordered eating.
I have to find me some of this carmel oikos yogurt! Sometimes I get hungy from reading blogs, I definitely buy new foods based on the blogs I read.
Yes I definitely know what you mean about sometimes you see healthy food and you crave that and sometimes you see chocolate chip cookies or whatever and crave those. I think more often with food blogs it just makes me want to cook something and that something is typically healthy. Or it makes me want to try to buy something new (case in point, Greek yogurt this week–how much healthier can you get than that!)
