She Says: Happy Birthday Weekend

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

This weekend, Mark and I drove from New Jersey up to Boston for my nieces birthday. On the way we stopped at Fresh City and Mark got a Cancun Burrito to get that spring break feel. I didn’t have any because it had chicken in it. It was low carb and it made us wonder, why are low carb products rubbery?

There was delicious food and fun family festivities at Hannah’s party.

After the party, we headed to my parents’ house in Rhode Island. Sunday morning I used their treadmill for a wonderful 6.25 mile run (50 minutes).

After, I went with my mom, dad, sister, sister’s man friend and Mark to Bagelz in Wickford, R.I.  I got the wheat bagel and roasted pepper hummus.

Mark got a cinnamon raisin bagel with Taylor Ham, egg and cheese. Don’t get this from Bagelz. They use a microwave to cook the eggs and Taylor ham so the eggs are rubbery and the ham doesn’t crisp up like it should when cooked on a giant greased up griddle.

Then, we went for a family walk. It was frigid.

After lots of driving, we are back in New Jersey and back to cleaning and organizing the apartment.  There is no end in sight!

Tomorrow, Mark is back to work and I am back to searching for a job in New Jersey. I am nervous about it, but have a plan. Tomorrow I am going to complete my resume and start applying as a substitute to some private schools in the area. At the same time, I am going to sign up to substitute in public schools in the area and work on my paper work for obtaining my teaching certification in N.J. I am not sure what I’ll find, but right now, I’m keeping positive!

One last thing …

This was Hannah’s birthday party, but her birthday is January 6th. Tomorrow, January 5th, is my other niece’s (Hannah’s cousin) birthday.

Happy 8th Birthday to Isabella and Happy 11th Birthday to Hannah!

She Says: John Adams Stole My Heart

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

I’ve finished  the John Adams series. If you have any interest in learning more about this time in America’s history I highly recommend the DVDs. My dad is reading the book, too and he says it’s filled with more details than the movie.

I finished last night so I can now focus on other tasks. Let me back up to what I did earlier in the day. I was feeling much better when I woke up, but now my sister is sick, so I hopped on the treadmill for a wonderful 6 mile run. Then I went over to Bagelz for this month’s meeting of Chick Lits, which is my book club. I had a half a wheat bagel with roasted pepper hummus and an apple. My mom had the other half of the bagel with low fat veggie cream cheese.

Bumble Bar Review: Tropical and Cherry

I also brought some of my Bumble Bars for people to try. My Auntie had the Tasty Tropical , which is described on the website as “An enticing bite of paradise featuring sweet pineapple and lush coconut. Wake up your tastebuds with the ultimate tropical treat.”  She loved it explaining that it satisfies many sensory needs at once – it’s soft and chewy, by crunchy and sweet, but has something offsetting that sweetness. She loosely follows weight watchers so she didn’t like the fat content (12 g), but I reminded her how much better that was for her than a big bagel and cream cheese.

I also gave my 7 year old niece the Chunky Cherry  to try the other day. Well, first, I tried to give her some of the Original and she wasn’t having it. Then I offered her the Chunky Cherry and she like it. She wanted me to tell you, “It’s fruity.” I think she liked that one because it was sweeter and softer than the plain – more the consistency of a traditional granola bar than the Original flavor.

After the book club meeting I did some returns/shopping with my mom. The mall was crazy! Much more crowded than before Christmas.

Oh yes, I got a special treat in the mail from Rose. My very own copy of Swallow. My whole family has been enjoying it and are very intrigued by all the little stories inside.

For dinner I had some frozen and defrosted homemade vegetarian chili, a Dr. Prager’s burger (which I ended up crumbling into the chili as you can see) and 1/2 an Ezekial hamburger bun.

I also had a couple leftover Christmas cookies. Egg’Noggn tea and settled in with John Adams. And that, my friends, was my exciting Saturday night. I enjoyed it thoroughly and I hope you did as well!
