She Says: Cupcake Fest & Frohawks

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

No, I did not fall off The Cleaner Life Month wagon! Cupcake Fest is a cupcake and music event sponsored by Sweet Avenue Bake Shop. It’s in Lincoln Park across from the bakery in Rutherford, N.J this Saturday. There will be free mini-cupcakes, music, raffles and and donation collection for the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City. I haven’t made it over there yet, but I’ve heard their cupcakes (all vegan by the way) are amazing. Nicole loves them! Look at their June Cupcake of the Month!!!!!

I have my Girls on the Run 5K in the morning, but Mark and I are planning to go in the afternoon. Let me know if you’re going to be there! Even though I won’t be eating the cupcakes, it should be a fun day!

Anyway, I hope you’re having an excellent Tuesday! So far, so good on my end. At the gym this morning I did 20 minutes elliptical and 20 minutes bike. I cam home and did my Shred routine that I explained here.  It was a a wonderfully sweaty workout!

When I was done I needed some lunch. I chose a hummus sandwich with spinach and mango. Mango is a fruit that is new to me and it’s so tropical and delicious.

And in other news, Mark’s Mohawk is now a Frohawk.

Still like it?  Yeah I thought so.

She Says: The Name Game

Monday, June 8th, 2009

After yesterday’s spill I needed a day off from running. Instead I went to the gym and did 20 minutes on the elliptical and 20 minutes on the stationery bike while reading Baby Proof. Reading on the bike made the time go by very quickly, and although I know my HR doesn’t get up as high as it does when I run, it’s still fun to switch it up.

When I got home I had breakfast for lunch – a bowl of oats, banana and almond butter. It was delicious and hit the spot.

My meals might get a little simple this month, but I don’t mind at all. When I did the Raw Month I felt a little bit of self-imposed pressure to create wonderful and extravagant things, but I’m over that. Simple is the way to be!

To spice things up I will share some pictures of Mark caring for his Mohawk.

After lunch I did two 20 minute Yoga Download classes – Detox #2 and Power #3. These are shorter and less challenging than the Dave Farmar Podcasts, but because they are a slower pace they give a great stretch.

Now it’s off to work for me!

But before, that I wanted to let you know that my sister in law and brother are choosing middle names for their first sex unknown baby and is seeking counsel from blog readers near and far. I told her that she just might know what to name the baby when she meets him/her and told her a story about my own name. I am the fourth girl in my family. My parents were convinced I would be a boy, but they selected a boy and girl name for me. Once they got past their initial disappointment that I did not have the right parts, they named me Marissa. I had a birth certificate and everything and for a few days (I think three), Marissa was my name. Eventually, they decided it did not suit me. My mom says I just looked like a Heather and changed my name. My three older sisters have fairly unique names (Nicole, Renee and Nadine) and so does my mom (Camille).

I like my name and all, but feel like I got the short end of the creativity stick. Heather was the 6th most popular name the year I was born. Luckily there was never another Heather in my class! My mom and sisters claim that I have the better deal because I could always find personalized crap at random souvenir shops. I think not, and when I was young pretended my name was Charlotte, something much more suitable for my old soul.  If I were “Charlotte” I would have a much less popular name. Unfortunately, the success of Sex & The City is going to make it way too popular in coming years.

Yes, I am obsessed with baby names in the way that some girls are about wedding planning.

Do you like your name? How were you named or how did you choose your child’s name? Do you have potential baby names picked?
