She Says: One Saturday in August…

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

I had a fabulous day.

You girls have awesome ideas for getting those snug pants to fit again. Check out everyone’s great ideas in the comment section.

To address one commenter who I assume is new and expressing genuine concern about my health, I am neither lying about my too tight pants nor what I eat. I do not post everything I eat for several reasons. First, I saw other bloggers get closely scrutinized for this and decided I did not want to deal with that. Second, I did not want to have to remember to take a picture of everything. Third, I do not think it’s important for my blog. My purpose is to show what represents my healthy balance. Inherent in that idea is that I do not need to be perfectly healthy all of the time to be a perfectly healthy person. That said, I always post when I eat out or enjoy a dessert or “junk food,” and I like to show when I’ve baked or made something new. What I leave out is just more of what you see already. I promise I am not gorging myself on cake and not telling anyone.

Anyway, I had a wonderful run today! I did 9 miles in 1:21.54, which is great for me! I am really feeling good about my 9:06ish pace I’ve had on recent runs. I enjoyed 3 Sharkies after 7 or so miles. Per usual they gave me an excellent energy boost. Also, knock on wood that I have not had any sciatic pain since getting my new sneakers!!!!!!

After the run I enjoyed a glass of Wheat Grass (sent to me for review by Amazing Grass) and Carrot Juice. Mark bought this the other day and I was completely thrown off by how delicious carrot juice is. Bolthouse Farms 100% Carrot Juice has only carrots – no added sugar either!

I hung out and did some work for school before partaking in lunch, which was The Perfect Hummus Veggie Sandwich – a menu item often costing $8+.

You know you’ve ordered it and thought, “I could do this for $3.00.” Yes you can! Mine contains hummus, lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, red onion and tomato.

After lunch I kicked it at the mall and am so pleased with all my purchases! All my shopping stress and frustration with the “pregnancy style” vanished when I went to the land of wonder and delight that is Anthropologie.

I shopped for quite some time and built up quite an appetite, so I snacked on my Cookies ‘N Cream Clif Builder.

I am definitely not huge into protein bar consumption (the last time I had this bar was on Jan. 24th), and that is something I am happy about because (1) the ingredients are not the best; (2) I would rather have a real food item; and (3) they usually make my stomach hurt. Sometimes, however, the convenience and flavor just outweigh the cons. Clif makes the best protein bars because they are delicious and do not make my belly sick.

Now I am home and I just made chocolate chip cookies for my new downstairs neighbors. How domestic of me. :D

Tomorrow Mark and I are going to a traditional Indian wedding for one of his co-workers. I’ve never been to a wedding that was not Christian or Jewish, so I am excited to learn and eat at this all day affair.

She Says: Ridiculously Good!

Monday, June 29th, 2009

I much prefer working in the morning to the afternoons. It makes the day so much more productive. I was able to roll over a 401K into an IRA, go to Trader Joe’s, hit the gym and spend quality time at the children’s library and eat an enormous amount of bread today.

When I got home there was the best present a carb loving girl could ask for. Two loaves of Dave’s Killer Bread, specifically, Dave’s Flourless Sprouted Wheat Bread – the best sprouted wheat bread I’ve ever had straight from Andrea in Oregon. Really. Other sprouted wheat breads are bearable, but they are always dry and full of air. Not this bad boy. It’s wonderful because it’s softer and chewier than most sprouted breads and it’s seedy on the outside. I love seeds and I am so excited to have two loaves.

Thank you Andrea for sending this to us. Love Mark & Heather.

I can’t even lie. I’ve already had three pieces of this bread. First with some Naturally Nutty Vanilla Almond Butter. Ya know, just to test it out.

Then with a hummus, spinach and cucumber sandwich for dinner. I will really try not to eat all of this bread in three days, so I can enjoy it for as long as possible.
