She Says: Oh Lordy Lordy

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Hello! Today was Day 1 of Summer Enrichment class. Class 1, piece of cake. Four little kids eager to learn all about the ocean. Class 2, not so much. Many more little kids, some eager, some not so eager to learn about science. Hmmph. I need to go find more exciting sciencey things to do for tomorrow! They are definitely going to give me a run for my money.

Classes end at 12:00 and I walked right on home for lunch. I had leftover pesto that Mark made with my own “"zucchini noodles” and a delicious plain Oikos Greek yogurt. The cold and creamy was perfect for a hot summer day.

I followed that up with a big bowl of watermelon. Perfect summer treat!

Oh and I am not sure I shared the present my sister got me for my birthday.

It has lots of herbs like rosemary, chives, parsley and lavender. It also has the basil that Mark used in the pesto.  This is the best smelling plant ever.

The rest of the day includes an appointment regarding my finances that I am dreading, another trip to the local library and hopefully some relaxation at the gym.

Have a gorgeous day!  I might actually have to water my tomato plant today!

She Says: Good Deodorant is a Must

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Hi! I only watched my Brooklyn Half video 7 times today. That’s way down from yesterday. Big improvement!

I just wanted to start off by saying that I forgot to put deodorant on before I went to work today. Luckily, I work across the street from my house so I promptly walked right back home when I started dripping with sweat upon arrival. I know I should use more natural deodorant, but clearly I need something with strength!

I had leftover tofu stir fry for lunch with a Key Lime Cupaucu Apple Sauce from Musselman’s. Full review to come as soon as I try the other two flavors!

After lunch I did a little exercising, but no running yet. I gotta give it up for the 30 Day Shred. I know it’s old news, but really I must talk about it. I am the laziest strength trainer ever and this is the first thing I’ve ever done consistently. At this point I don’t one full level, but rather mix and match. Today, for example, I went to the gym and did 45 minutes on the elliptical and then came home and did a hybrid of Levels II and III that ended up looking like this:

Circuit 1

Walking plank
Superman
Repeat

Double Crunches
Sumo hops
Repeat

Pike crunch
Scissor crunches

Circuit 2

Dumbbell cleans
Pendulum Lunge and Hammer Curl
Repeat

Dumbbell shadowboxing
Butt kicks
Repeat

Crunch & Leg Lift

Circuit 3

Traveling push ups (knees)
Plank row & leg raises
Repeat

Bicycle crunches

When the time for the cardio circuit comes I either do it or sub in another strength of ab circuit from another level. I love it! I’ve gotten stronger pretty quickly and that only motivates me to keep at it! And today I found that Jillian Michaels has short 2 and 3 minute workouts on here on hulu. I haven’t done any yet, but am going to definitely check them out.

In the afternoon I had a snack of plain yogurt and ground flax seed.

For dinner I was pretty hungry so I had a big salad with corn and bean salsa, tomatoes, red peppers, corn on the cob and two Morningstar Farms Spicy Black Bean Burgers.

That means I had soy four times today – milk in coffee, muffin, lunch and dinner. That is way tooo much! For my upcoming Clean Living Challenge I’ve been researching soy, which is quite frustrating because articles and studies contradict one another left and right! I have to question each source and assess motivation! Anyway, I haven’t decided what I think yet, but I do know that’s probably way too much for one day! How much soy do you consume?

I also had some unnecessary junk food. Dry cereal. Meh.
