She Says: Good Deodorant is a Must

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Hi! I only watched my Brooklyn Half video 7 times today. That’s way down from yesterday. Big improvement!

I just wanted to start off by saying that I forgot to put deodorant on before I went to work today. Luckily, I work across the street from my house so I promptly walked right back home when I started dripping with sweat upon arrival. I know I should use more natural deodorant, but clearly I need something with strength!

I had leftover tofu stir fry for lunch with a Key Lime Cupaucu Apple Sauce from Musselman’s. Full review to come as soon as I try the other two flavors!

After lunch I did a little exercising, but no running yet. I gotta give it up for the 30 Day Shred. I know it’s old news, but really I must talk about it. I am the laziest strength trainer ever and this is the first thing I’ve ever done consistently. At this point I don’t one full level, but rather mix and match. Today, for example, I went to the gym and did 45 minutes on the elliptical and then came home and did a hybrid of Levels II and III that ended up looking like this:

Circuit 1

Walking plank
Superman
Repeat

Double Crunches
Sumo hops
Repeat

Pike crunch
Scissor crunches

Circuit 2

Dumbbell cleans
Pendulum Lunge and Hammer Curl
Repeat

Dumbbell shadowboxing
Butt kicks
Repeat

Crunch & Leg Lift

Circuit 3

Traveling push ups (knees)
Plank row & leg raises
Repeat

Bicycle crunches

When the time for the cardio circuit comes I either do it or sub in another strength of ab circuit from another level. I love it! I’ve gotten stronger pretty quickly and that only motivates me to keep at it! And today I found that Jillian Michaels has short 2 and 3 minute workouts on here on hulu. I haven’t done any yet, but am going to definitely check them out.

In the afternoon I had a snack of plain yogurt and ground flax seed.

For dinner I was pretty hungry so I had a big salad with corn and bean salsa, tomatoes, red peppers, corn on the cob and two Morningstar Farms Spicy Black Bean Burgers.

That means I had soy four times today – milk in coffee, muffin, lunch and dinner. That is way tooo much! For my upcoming Clean Living Challenge I’ve been researching soy, which is quite frustrating because articles and studies contradict one another left and right! I have to question each source and assess motivation! Anyway, I haven’t decided what I think yet, but I do know that’s probably way too much for one day! How much soy do you consume?

I also had some unnecessary junk food. Dry cereal. Meh.

She Says: Naan Na Na Na

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Lots of new things today!!!

Mid afternoon I needed a little something something so I tried this Odwalla Original Super Protein Juice, which was excellent!

At first I was a little thrown off because I was expecting more of a smoothie than a juice, but once I got past that it was quite enjoyable. It’s a little thicker than normal juice and tastes a lot like Apple and Banana Baby Food, which might sound disgusting unless you’re like me and enjoy the taste of baby food. I had a little more than half and did a great job at filling me up.

After work I went to the market to purchase not one, but two cakes for staff members birthdays. I also had to get stuff for this “Carnival Day” we’re planning for next week and it was actually really difficult. Ask me to find quinoa or Greek yogurt and I’m golden, but ask me to find bacon or ground beef in a market and I’m lost.

Once I got home I started cooking dinner, which I was super excited about. As I said, my dinner was inspired by Gina because I am pretty sure I will never be able to see Naan and not think of her. Girl goes out for Indian at least once a week. Me on the other hand, I’m an Indian novice. I had a coupon for an Ethnic Gourmet product, so I decided to use it on this Punjab Saag.

Ingredients: TOMATO PUREE (WATER, TOMATO PASTE), SPINACH, LIGHT CREAM, DICED TOMATOES, ONIONS, LEMON JUICE, CANOLA OIL, GINGER, GARLIC, SALT, CUMIN, CORIANDER, TURMERIC, PAPRIKA, RED PEPPER, CLOVES, CINNAMON.

This was incredibly easy to make. All you have to do is pour the jar in a pan, add water and chicken, tofu or whatever else you want to make. Then cook is for 10-12 minutes. I did one pan with chicken and one pan with tofu that I baked this afternoon. I served it with some steamed spinach and Whole Wheat Naan. The chicken is on the right of the spinach and the tofu is on the left.

Naan is a v. dangerous thing. So, I had one and then I kept trying to convince Mark to get the fourth one from the package, but he knows how to exercise carbohydrate restraint and wasn’t biting. Eventually I just went for it! Double Naan – I know!!!!

I thought the sauce was good, but I will admit I have zero Indian food knowlegde. It had a little bit of spice, but nothing overwhelming. I thought it had a strong tomato and slightly bitter taste. Mark thought it needed a lot more spice. Overall, it was fun to step outside the box of my usual dinner routine and I am looking forward to venturing further down the Indian aisle.

If you have an easy recipes or good products I should try in the Indian cuisine are, please let me know!

P.S. There is still a little bit of time to check out Erin’s Blog Bake Sale to benefit the Jimmy Fund!!!

P.P.S. Megan registered and she picked the cutest baby stuff ever!
