She Says: Avocado Brownies
I did it! I successfully revised my Avocado Brownie recipe to something I am much happier to publish than my previous effort. The result is a chocolately cake-like brownie where the healthy avocado fat is completely undetectable – money back guarantee!
Ingredients
- 1 C Whole Wheat Pastry Flour
- 3/4 C Cocoa Powder
- 3/4 C Raw Turbinado Sugar
- 1/2 t Baking Soda (these really rose, less is better if you like less cakey brownies)
- 1 T Flax
- 3 T Water
- 1/2 Avocado
- 2 T Almond Milk (or as much as needed to create a batter)
Directions
- Peel and cut 1/2 of an avocado and blend in a food processor until it’s a creamy texture.
- Add 3 T of water and 1 t of ground flax to the avocado to make a flax egg. Let it sit for a few minutes while combining the rest of the ingredients.
- In a large bowl mix the flour, cocoa powder, sugar and baking soda.
- Blend the avocado and flax egg in the food processor to combine.
- Add the avocado flax mix to the fry ingredients and mix.
- The mix will be too dry to mix completely. Add as much of the Almond Milk so that it creates a batter.
- Bake in a prepared baking pan for 20 minutes at 350*
Just a note, I used a loaf pan and it made about 10 brownies of varying sizes.

Ah I want to try this! I have a baking phobia. So lame.

Yum, these sound great Heather!
I made some dark chocolate + cherry cookies once with avocado in the batter. So, so good.
Those look and sound incredibly. I know joythebaker once posted a vegan avocado cake…I’ve always want to try baked goods with avocado!
These sound fantastic!! Do you think they’d work with egg white instead of flax egg?
Those look so good!
I’m so excited to see avocado in brownies! Check out this link to see a muffin recipe I posted about recently where I used 2 ripe avocados in place of banana.

Have a great day, Heather!!!
yes please! these sound amazing…i am now inspired to try avocado in other things (where the color is undetectable
)
Those look so yummy, looks like a great recipe!
Yum! I think it goes best if you include the ice cream in the recipe
I can’t wait to try these!
Using avocados in brownies is absolutely genius! They look delicious. I love the healthy ingredients too.
Thanks! I’m very interested in trying these out!
Those look amazing and I have some avocadoes in the fridge getting just too soft to eat on there own… if I end up eating them all in one day, at least I’ll get plenty of healthy fats and… err.. fibre!
I sometimes put avocado in smoothies myself
yum yum! love this recipe… though i feel like making them would just set me up to eat all of them… in one sitting.
Did they taste avocado-y? They look ah-maze.
Those look so fugdey. I have to make them! I love adding fun ingredients to things that they seem like they should belong in like pumpkin my my turkey chili!
That’s awesome- WF had avocados on crazy sale last week (3 for $1) and I have a few in my fridge right now!
Have you ever tried black bean brownies? Sounds gross, I know. You just had a can of pureed black beans to a box of brownie mix. It’s the best lowfat brownie I’ve ever tasted.
I don’t enjoy avocados (I know I’m weird), but I’m going to trust you on these and try them this weekend!
i just made these using your recipe!!!!!!!!!!!!
i put them in individual cupcake holders. i’ll post them on my blog tomorrow and link back to you. thanks!!!! fab idea!
Lacey and Haley – I can’t wait to hear what you thought!
darn it my old blog site always defaults here. grr. i just changed it
oh. oh my.
these will be the first thing i make once i am freed of dorm living.
Neat idea! I’ve tried chocolate avocado pudding and it was disastrous. I don’t think I’ll be baking with avocado again… too expensive, plus I don’t like avocados. I DID recently make black bean brownies, however, and they were delicious! It’s so much fun making food with unusual ingredients.
don’t you love turning veggies into sweets?
oh and i just *happen* to have half an avocado…
I love Avocados and this recipe sounds delish! I’ve been raiding a local bake sale buying (unhealthy) brownies daily why do that when i can make a batch of these! Do you happen to know the estimate of calories for the whole recipe?

Interesting, yet, delicious sounding. I would’ve never thought to replace the fats in a recipe with AVOCADO – great idea!
